Adik Sa 'Yo (2009)

Adik Sa 'Yo

MUCH has been said and written about love. Some say it's ironic, others call it extraordinary. And there are those who say that love is exciting or dangerous, cruel, even, funny. But in the grand scheme of it all, only one thing remains -- Love, will always leave you wanting for more.

Four of the most sought-after Kapuso stars -- Dennis Trillo, Jennica Garcia, Marvin Agustin, and Jolina Magdangal -- share stellar billing in Adik Sa 'Yo, GMA Network's refreshingly original and uber romantic primetime series premiering today.

Megged by award-winning director Joel Lamangan, Adik Sa 'Yo follows the lives of Ruben (Dennis Trillo), Karen (Jennica Garcia), Carlos (Marvin Agustin), and Joana (Jolina Magdangal) -- four people who couldn't be more different, and the amusing circumstances that surround them.

As fate would have it, their paths inevitably crisscross to create a rollercoaster ride of emotional highs and lows, unexpected twists and turns, and life-changing surprises.

Karen (Jennica) is from a nouveau riche family whose quick rise to wealth came from manufacturing sardines. Karen's overbearing mother, Stella (Elizabeth Oropesa), wanted to marry her off to Carlos (Marvin), a successful businessman whose family supplies them fish.

Meanwhile, Joana (Jolina), Karen's conservative half-sibling, works as a secretary for the family's sardine business, known as "Stella Stardines." Underrated and unappreciated both at home and at work, she spends her weekends caring for the elderly at the home for the aged.

On the night before Karen's wedding, Joana, in spite of their obvious dissimilarities and constant bickering, senses her sister's apprehension about the marriage. Joana then tells her sister to put her happiness first and to follow her heart's desires.

Taking her sister's advice, Karen runs off, with her assistant Emilene (Charisse Solomon) in tow, and ends up in the far-flung province of Batangas. All she leaves behind is a letter explaining her reasons, which causes everyone to put the blame on Joana.

Consumed with guilt, Joana apologizes to an intoxicated Carlos. One thing led to another and they ended up in a very awkward place.

Joana, despite having deep feelings for Carlos, thought it best to just move on and to focus instead on looking for Karen. As they agreed to stay friends, their past soon catches up with them adding further chaos to their already conflicted hearts.

By some twist of fate, Karen meets Ruben (Dennis), a magtutuba, after bumping her head against a coconut. Finding love in the most unexpected places, Karen, despite their contrasting backgrounds, eventually found a place in her heart for the small-town boy. Only there's a problem: Ruben has a girlfriend, Camille (Pauleen Luna).

Incidentally, Camille takes off to pursue her lifelong dream of being a Sexbomb dancer. But just when Ruben is starting to fall in love with Karen, Camille jumps back into the picture. They reconcile and this prompts Karen to return to Manila and vow never to see Ruben again.

By this time, sparks will also die between Joana and Carlos. Carlos will once again ask for Karen's hand in marriage, while Ruben will cross paths with Joana as they embark on a mission that will change their lives forever.

What will now happen to our star-crossed lovers? Who's going to end up with whom? Is a happy ending still in sight or will the four of them be forever tangled up in the pursuit of finding true love?

Partly shot in some of the lush provinces of Luzon, Adik Sa 'Yo pairs together for the first time, Dennis and Jennica, and reunites former love team partners, Marvin and Jolina in a TV series. In keeping with the rustic theme, Dennis, along with the other "Batanguenos" in the story, even experienced formal training under a dialect coach.

Completing the powerhouse cast are Joey Marquez, Chanda Romero, Eugene Domingo, Iwa Motto, John Lapus, Ces Quesada, Luz Valdez, German Moreno, Benjie Paras, Vanes del Moral, Sandy Talag, Mosang, Tony Mabesa, Jim Pebangco, and with the special participation of the Sexbomb Dancers.
