All-American Girl (1994)

Margaret, the far-from traditional daughter of Korean immigrants, straddles the line between the customs of her old-world family and contemporary American life. Margaret's main frustration is her mother, who can't keep her meddling fingers from pushing the girl's buttons. Her father, acting as peacemaker between his strong-willed wife and daughter, provides the voice of reason. Margaret's family also includes older brother Stuart, the dutiful son; 12-year-old brother Eric, who looks up to his "cool" sister; and Grandma, who is either very wise or becoming senile. Margaret works at a local department store selling perfume with her friends Ruthie and Gloria. They often compare notes on how to cope with men, family and life's daily surprises.The series began as a comedy about a young college student living at home, coping with her close-knit, traditional, Korean-American family. At the end of the season, in an attempt to reformulate the story line, Margaret moves into an apartment with three male roommates, and only her grandmother is a regular visitor. The roommates are Jimmy, a politically correct mechanic; Phil, a nerdy security guard; and Spenser, a preppy law student. Only one episode with this new story line was telecast on March 15, 1995.
