An MG Is Born (2005)The MGB was by far the most successful sports car ever made by MG. For nearly 20 years the MGB was the world's best-selling open sports car (386,789 cars were produced). It was overtake by Japanese rivals only in the late 1990s. What better vehicle then for Mark Evans to restore as a brand new series of ...Is Born returns for the eight time to Discovery Real Time. Mark will be restoring an 1974 MGB Roadster, one of the last of the chrome bumper models manufactured. The MGB Roadster is the Quintessential British 2 Boor, 2 Seater sports car. Launched in 1962, it was an instant hit. The critics loved this simple robust little car. The Monocoque shell is bet dressed in its famous spoked wire wheels. It stayed in production for an incredible 18 years. During this time around, half a million cars were built, making it the best selling MG ever. At the height of production, 45,000 cars were produced each year and of those 39,000 were shipped out to the States. The MGB was a great success story for the company in the 1960s. The man who gave the car its recognisable shape was chief designer Don Hayer. The MGB was built to replace the MGA.
