Best of the West

Sam Best, a Civil War veteran, goes west in 1865 along with his wife, Elvira, and son, Daniel. He ends up being the town marshall and at odds with Parker Tellman, the saloonkeeper.

 

Best of the West (1981)

During the closing days of the Civil War, Sam Best, widower and father of a ten-year-old boy, marries Elvira Devereaux, a beautiful southern belle he met while he and his fellow Union soldiers were burning her father's plantation. Following the war, the Bests move to Philadelphia, but soon afterward Sam decides to forsake city life for the simple life of a shopkeeper out west.Misguided and naive, Sam settles in Copper Creek, Montana, a rough-and-tumble town that is owned and operated by ParkerTillman, the insidious proprietor of the Square Deal Saloon. When fate intervenes and Sam is forced to stand up to a vicious gunfighter, the grateful citizens elect him their town marshal. The series depicts Sam's adventures as a general store owner and town marshal.
