| | Bewitched (1964)Samantha, played by Elizabeth Montgomery, has fallen in love with Darrin Stephens (first played by Dick York and later by Dick Sargent) -- and seems like she's the luckiest girl alive when she marries him in the first episode. The trouble in this situation comedy begins when Darrin finds out that Samantha is part of a secret society of powerful witches and warlocks and has great magic at the twitch of her nose. Thoroughly befuddled, Darrin makes Samantha promise never to use her witchcraft. She agrees, and tries to settle into being the perfect suburban housewife. Her mother Endora (Agnes Moorehead), however, has a different agenda. She hates the fact that Samantha has married a mortal and continually tries to break up the marriage. Samantha's other spellbinding friends pop in and out of the Stephens' household as Sam tries (and fails -- most of the time) to live life without magic. |
