| Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher)![]() Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer
Susan Bremmer grew up believing her father was a deceased Marine. She was raised by her mother, whose erratic love life led to some distance between the two of them. Susan was a high school cheerleader and graduated as valedictorian, although in a later episode Karen McCluskey makes fun of her for attending community college. She later married Karl Mayer and they had a daughter, Julie, but they divorced on grounds of infidelity a year before the start of Desperate Housewives. Season OneSusan Mayer sees new neighbor Mike Delfino as an opportunity to find a better life than the one she is living. Completely clumsy by nature, Susan, at one point was locked outside of her own house completely naked and wet in broad daylight after ex-husband Karl drove off with her towel caught in the car door; she had to cover herself with a plant pot as she made a mad dash for the back door, only to fall into a bush and be discovered by Mike, who managed to unlock her door. She also accidentally burnt Edie Britt's house down. Susan is naturally inquisitive and is perhaps the driving force behind the housewives' efforts to discover the truth about Mary Alice Young's suicide which hit her hard. She is particularly suspicious of Paul Young. She dislikes Zach Young and worries about the threat he poses to her daughter Julie Mayer, describing him as "rampage crazy" (whilst admitting that she herself is "adorable crazy"). Susan is also a neighborhood gossip and busy-body as she hires a private investigator to uncover the dark secrets of the Youngs and Mike Delfino with whom she ends up in a relationship anyway. Season TwoAt the beginning of Season Two, Susan Mayer is still in a relationship with Mike Delfino. However, Mike breaks up with her when he learns she gave Zach money to go to Utah in order to find Paul Young. Susan discovers who her birth father is at her mother's wedding reception, Addison Prudy, the owner of a feed store. When she meets up with him she is disappointed he does not want to be a part of her life, and when he has a heart attack, he claims to his wife she is his guardian angel. Susan embarks on a relationship with Dr. Ron, who is several years younger than her, however this does not last long when he discovers she is still in love with Mike. Susan also remarries Karl for health insurance purposes, and she also drunkenly sleeps with him. When Edie finds out, enraged, she burns down Susan's house. At the end of Season 2, Susan is back together with Mike, and is waiting for his proposal, before he is suddenly mowed down by a mystery figure, who is revealed to be Orson Hodge. Season ThreeIn season Three Susan finds herself looking after Mike, who has been in a coma since his accident. At the hospital however, she finds herself slowly falling for the husband of another coma patient, his name is Ian Hainsworth. This ultimately leads to Susan being in the arms of Ian when Mike wakes from his coma, causing the rebellious Edie Britt to brainwash Mike into believing they were a couple. This was a huge advantage to Edie considering that Mike had retrograde amnesia and does not remember the past two years of his life, including meeting and falling in love with Susan. Susan is merely an obsessed ex-girlfriend. Then, when Susan hears that Mike woke up from his coma, she breaks up with Ian and goes to Mike, but only to be rejected by him because of what Edie was telling him about her. Leaving Susan heartbroken, she returns to Ian, whose own wife eventually dies. Much of Season Three is devoted to their growing relationship, as well as Susan struggling to control Julie, who secretly obtains birth control so she cannot get pregnant with Austin's child. As Mike begins to remember his past, he learns of his true feelings for Susan prior to his accident.Mike tries very hard to win Susan back, but she is already engaged to Ian and this time rejects him, even though she is still madly and head over heels in love with him. After a series of arguments involving Ian, Mike and herself, Susan chooses to marry Ian. However, after she learns Mike is leaving Wisteria Lane for good, she realizes where her heart lies and Ian ultimately lets her go. So, Susan goes to Mike and they live happily ever after. After a series of slapstick moments involving Susan lost in the forest, Mike rescues her where they both declare their love. When he finds her in the forest, he picks her up and they share a kiss. At the end of Season 3 Susan inadvertently proposes to Mike, and they enjoy a secluded lantern- lit wedding ceremony with Julie as bridesmaid. Season FourStill hanging on her drama, Susan Delfino doesn't believe Mike to be happy and thinks their marriage is doomed until her new gynecologist, Adam Mayfair, informs her that she's pregnant. She then tries to get a new ob-gyn by almost stalking Bree but since the latter is faking her pregnancy, she ends up sending her to an awful ob-gyn. When Susan finally confronts her, she lies again to justify the wall between them (which was mostly due to Bree avoiding Susan's hugs and being bothered by her daughter's situation). She and Mike hit their first rock when she desperately tries to get herself liked by the new neighbors, ultimately ruining one of their suits leading Mike to snap at her when he has to pay to replace it. They cause her more trouble by having an ugly and noisy fountain placed on their front yard. This results in her having to solely choose between Lynette and Katherine for president for the neighborhood council. Lynette is a closer friend, but Katherine promised to get rid of the fountain, so she picks Katherine. Lynette is clearly upset, although they soon make peace. Susan comforts her when she reveals she thinks she is ruining her kids' childhood. She then discovers Mike's dad to be a remorseless murderer but is relieved to learn he has remorse for ruining his son's life. Susan soon learned that Mike was again using drugs. She confronted him about this but he denied it and even got rid of his pills to convince her of it. However, he later retrieved the very pills he had dumped down the sink. Later on, Susan Delfino finds out that Mike is still taking the same type of pills that he disposed of. When she told Mike she was going into the bathroom, she was really watching him out the window. Later that night, when Mike is asleep, she finds more pills in his truck only to find out who prescribed them...Orson. When Susan and Mike start fighting about Mike's pills, it is revealed that Susan's very best friend is Bree. In the episode 4.09 "Something's Coming", Susan confronts Mike over the pills. The two get into a fight, and Mike accidentally pushes her down the stairs. At the hospital, Mike gets into a fight with one of the orderlies, and has to be handcuffed. Susan tells Mike about a rehab program, and he refuses to enter rehab, until she reveals she will leave him if he does not get over his addiction. Mike then agrees to enter rehab. The doctor tells Susan her baby is fine. After the tornado, Susan lets Bree, Orson, and Baby Benjamin move into her house. Originally Susan is unhappy about it but she then likes having Bree there, because it makes her feel like her life is less of a failure. Susan's husband Mike will return from rehab for the baby. In the episode 4.15 "Mother Said" Mike's mother, Adele Delfino comes for a visit. Adele brings Susan a recipe book as a present, since she had heard from Mike that Susan is not a good cook. Adele also offers herself to teach her to cook. Adele brought up their financial issues while she and Susan prepare for dinner one night, but Susan insists that they do not have any problems financially as they both have jobs, although Adele thinks Susan's job as a children's book illustrator does not pay much. When Adele, Mike and Susan go to a restaurant to lunch, Susan tells Mike not to complain to Adele about her, but Mike insists that his mother is trying to help. As Adele rambles on about Susan's shortcomings, deciding that she would stay to spruce up the house, Susan fakes her contraction by spilling her club soda on her leg. Susan then goes into labor when Mike confesses to his mother that certain things she had said hurt Susan's feelings. Susan embraces her newborn baby boy as the episode ends. The Season 4 finale sees Mike and Susan struggling to name their baby, but they finally agree on Conner. Mike learns while at the hospital that his grandfather, Maynard, has died, and wishes to name his son after him. Susan confides in the women how she hates the name so changes it back behind Mike's back. When he finds out, he explains exactly why he wants to name him Maynard, and Susan agrees. After she brings her second child into the world, it's time for Susan to let go of her first, Julie, who is offered a place to stay during the summer because of an impressive piece of work she wrote. Susan, reluctant to let go of Julie, lies about not being able to afford it. After a strange encounter with Katherine, who has had a fight with Dylan because of all the lies shes told, Susan realizes she cannot deny Julie the opportunity she's been given by lying. She gives Julie a cell phone so she can reach her during the summer, and she says her goodbyes as Julie begins her college life at Princeton University. 5-year jumpThe season 4 finale fast-forwards five years, where we see Susan Bremmer-Mayer-Delfino come home from poker with the girls to a new unnamed man who we later find out is named Jackson Braddock, portrayed by Gale Harold, whom she kisses. And it is unknown if she resumed Mayer or Bremmer Season FiveSeason Five premiered on US television on Sunday, September 28, 2008 with the episode "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow". As previously stated at the end of the fourth season, season five takes place five years in the future compared with the events of the previous four seasons. In the new timeline, it is revealed that Susan has begun a secretive love affair with her painter and decorator Jackson Braddock. When Jackson asks Susan why they can't go public with their relationship, she replies 'Maybe I don't deserve to be happy' which references the end of her marriage to Mike Delfino. A series of recurrent flashbacks then reveal the reasons Susan Delfino and Mike's marriage broke down; Susan and Mike Delfino were involved in a road collision with another car which resulted in the death of the other driver, a young mother named Lila Dash, along with her young daughter, Paige. Although Susan and Mike were not to blame for the accident as the other car pulled out on them, Susan could not forgive herself and her husband for not getting the brakes checked on their car and the subsequent trauma took its toll on their marriage, as Susan can not help but feel responsible for the death of Lila Dash and her child, Paige Dash. When Mike arrives to pick up their son Maynard (nick-named 'MJ') for the weekend, Susan reveals for the first time to Mike that she is seeing someone. However the atmosphere between the two suggests that the real reason Susan will not pursue a full time relationship with Jackson is that she still loves Mike and holds out hope of the two of them getting back together, a feeling which he also shares. It is later revealed that Lila Dash is the late wife of Dave Williams, a new neighbor and Edie Britt's new husband. Although not directly spoken, Dave has implied that he intends to exact revenge on Mike Delfino by murdering Susan and their young son, M.J. It is revealed that he is going to kill Katherine and Mike while in the forest, camping. Susan got a job as a Teacher's Assistant to help give M.J. the best life possible. Dave later realizes that instead of Katherine it should have been Susan he was targeting all this time. | |||||||||||||||||
