Secrets, Lies, and Revenge

The sixth season of Desperate Housewives, is expected to be produced in 2009 and to premiere on ABC on September 27, 2009. It will take place between the years of late 2014 and early 2015 following the five year jump in the end of Season 4.

On April 23, 2009, it was announced that Desperate Housewives would return for a sixth season.

This is the first season not to feature Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan) as part of the principal cast, having been with the show since its inception until May 17, 2009. Neal McDonough (Dave Williams) and Gale Harold (Jackson Braddock) are also not returning.

It is noted that the four protagonists - Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross), and Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria Parker) - and the series' narrator, Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong), are all expected to return as regular cast members next season given that they were all contracted for the show's entire run. New Housewife Katherine Mayfair (Dana Delany) is also expected to return, as she has been contracted for at least three seasons.

Kathryn Joosten is believed to either retain her recurring role as Karen McCluskey, join the principal cast, or join Lily Tomlin in a possible Desperate Housewives spin-off.

Julie Mayer (Andrea Bowen) and Karl Mayer (Richard Burgi) are expected to return in guest-starring roles, or re-join the principal cast.

Actress Maiara Walsh is joining the regular cast in the role of Ana Solis, Carlos Solis's teenage niece, who moves onto Wisteria Lane with the Solis family, and comes into conflict with Gabrielle.

In the last five minutes of the season finale of season five a couple was married. It is known from that episode that Mike Delfino is the groom, although it is unsure whether Susan, Katherine or someone else is the bride.

Based on previous history, the show's creators presumably begun casting any regular or major recurring roles for the start of season 6 sometime between the 15th and 19th of June. Season six will start filiming July 13, 2009.

Kyle MacLachlan (Orson Hodge) is planning to quit Desperate Housewives after season 6, now that he is a father, because he is finding the commute from New York City to the Desperate Housewives set in Los Angeles very difficult. He has also stated that Bree's affair with Karl will see her get mixed up in "wrongdoings" and Orson will have to come to her rescue; MacLachlan informed that her affair will be discovered.
