Father Dowling Mysteries (1987)

Father Frank Dowling is a fine Catholic priest in a Chicago parish, but drives his housekeeper Marie to despair by his habit to be late for dinner as he and his right-hand, streetwise nun Stephanie 'Steve' Oskowski, from a criminal neighborhood, keep playing sleuth and solve numerous crimes in the neighborhood, usually involving at least one murder, and generally outsmart the police as well as the criminals. Still the in-living Father Philip Prestwick, whose priority are his own ecclesiastical career prospects, takes a very dim view at their crime fighting, as on sister Stephanie even being there.
