Jennifer Love Hewitt as Melinda Gordon
Melinda has the ability to see and communicate with ghosts. She moved to Grandview after she married Jim Clancy, a paramedic who knows of her ability. She had always been able to speak with the dead, or "earthbound spirits" as her grandmother (with whom she shared this ability) called them.

David Conrad as Jim Clancy
Jim Clancy is Melinda's husband. Jim is a paramedic and is in the process of restoring their home. Jim is supportive of Melinda and knows all about her gift. Jim is content with Melinda not taking his name since they've been married, although Jim's mother is Faith Clancy and she thinks Melinda should have taken the Clancy name. Jim had a brother who died.

Aisha Tyler as Andrea Moreno
Andrea was Melinda's best friend and business partner. Together they owned the "Same as it Never Was" antique shop. Andrea was an amateur stand up comedian. She also was one of the only people who knew that Melinda has a gift.

Jay Mohr as Professor Rick Payne
He was pessimistic at first but became one of Melinda's confidant. Rick Payne is a college professor who knows a lot about the supernatural.

Camryn Manheim as Delia Banks
She helps Menlinda in the antique shop, Delia thinks of Melinda as one of those quirky girl until Melinda told her about her gift. Delia is a single mom who has a son named Ned.

Christoph Sanders as Ned Bank
Delia's son who was introduced when he asked Melinda to help him talk to his father. He sometimes hang around in the antique shop.

Jamie Kennedy as Eli James
Eli James is a therapist who had an out-of-body experience. Unlike Melinda, Eli James can only hear ghosts. Melinda teaches him on how to handle bothersome spirits by helping them instead of pushing them away.
