| | Golden Path (2007)The story begins in the 1980s. An optimistic young widow, Xiao-gu, juggles bringing up her brood of three young children along with managing a roadside tze-char stall Fortunate Eatery. Fate gets her acquainted with Ah-jin, an outwardly upright man with two children, but who is in fact a robber. On the day Xiao-gu is supposed to be married to Ah-jin, he is killed in the cross-fire during a police round-up. It was Xiao-gu's second son (resenting the remarriage), who had tipped the police off about Ah-jin's whereabouts. At his death, Ah-jin entrusts his children in Xiao-gu's care, a responsibility Xiao-gu bears silently and willingly. Together with the transition of Chinatown, Xiao-gu's business flourishes. The five children grow up together, embroiled in conflicts of interest, webs of deceit, love, hatred and vengeance, which would lead to the ultimate climax of the story.
