A highly regarded neo-natal surgeon; while married to Derek, she had an affair with his best friend, plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Sloan, prompting Derek to leave New York for Seattle. Dr. Webber brings her to Seattle Grace for a consult on a difficult case and also to break things up between Derek and Meredith. Richard was aware of Derek and Addison's strained relationship, though not the cause of it ("Yesterday"). She decides to stay on as head of neonatal at Seattle Grace, signing a lucrative 2 year contract, and she and Derek decide to work things out. But when Derek has an affair with Meredith, she calls Mark Sloan to Seattle for an affair in response, and Derek leaves her. She asks Mark Sloan to go back but he stays, wanting to continue their relationship, but she continues to rebuff him. After the couple split, the former Shepherd couple finalized their divorce and she dropped the "Shepherd" from her last name. |
