Head of neurosurgery at SGH, the interns have nicknamed him "McDreamy" for his good looks. He was in a relationship with Meredith beginning in the first episode, but abruptly ended it when his estranged wife, Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery Shepherd, arrived in Seattle. (He had left her behind in New York City after catching her in bed with his best friend, Mark Sloan.) He tried to work things out with Addison, but was infatuated with Meredith, though he vehemently denied it when questioned. He and Meredith had sex at a party. He left Meredith's panties in his tux and his wife discovered them and called Mark Sloan, who came to Seattle in what he called a 'transcontinental booty call' ("I Am a Tree"). He left Addison and vied with Finn for Meredith's affection, before finally giving in and conceding Finn was the nicer guy. But Meredith ended up picking him, because he was The One. |
