Bao Qingtin, popularly known as Judge Bao was born into a cultured and scholarly family in Heifei, Anhul province. At the age of 29 years he passed the highest level of the imperial exams and was qualified to serve as one of the highest government officials, thus serving as a Magistrate of Bian, the capital of the Song Dynasty. He was well-known and respected for his uncompromising principles against corruption especially among government officials and royalties. His name is synonymous with Justice. Hence, he used sets of guillotines given by the Emperor to execute criminals. A scholar who took the Imperial Exam was abused physically and maimed by the very person whom he helped found sick and dying along the roadside, and nursed him back to good health, just to take the scholar's identity to give prestige and entrance to the Imperial Palace, and got himself married to the top minister's daughter, thus immuned him from further discovery of his treachery and evil acts. But justice has way all by itself when Judge Bao steps into the case. No royal patronage nor friendship, can sway his dedication to help the oppressed. The ending of this episode kept me wondering as Judge Bao set the impostor free. So, I have to anxiously wait for the next episode the following day. Finally my anxiety to find the ending was rewarded with what justice really was. By freeing the impostor, Judge Bao was asked and replied that "he will find his own place." True to form the impostor could not live with his conscience and in shame especially to his wife and unborn child and to the Royal court, he has take his own life, and that was the only way he could find peace. This Chinovela showcases not only Justice, Humanity and Humility but teaches us lessons on human values. |
