Mars Ravelo's Komiks Presents Kapitan Boom

We've grown used to the idea that a superhero epitomizes perfection, be it in looks or in acts of derring-do. Having a klutzy alter ego is nothing new but a superhero who's also a master of disaster?

“Pwede ka maging superhero kahit di ka perpekto,” said Direk Frasco Mortiz in a press con where the cast of Kapitan Boom was introduced for the first time. Mortiz himself was thrilled to play with the dynamics of a bumbling superhero, something which hasn't been seen on the small screen yet. You can depend on Kapitan Boom to save the day, but he just might hit a few roadblocks before he gets the job done.

Direk Frasco had no qualms working with the show's actors whom he admired for their willingness to learn. Admittedly, Mariana del Rio and Jon Avila had difficulties in speaking Tagalog, but the young director shared that the two managed to deliver their lines without having to change the script. He also gushed about dealing with grown ups compared to his other directorial projects like Goin' Bulilit,Let's Go, and Go Kada Go.

Kapitan Boom was born when a young Lance (Jay-R Siaboc) accidentally hit his father's transmitter, leading to an explosion where he unexpectedly acquires his superpowers. It was only when he became an adult that he was able to fully use his skills through his superhero persona, Kapitan Boom (Jon). Something to watch for in the series is the complicated yet hilarious interaction between Lance, Lance's love interest Melody (Maja Salvador), Melody's best friend Cheska (Mariana), and of course, Kapitan Boom.

In the meantime, when Maja was asked about her comeback team up with Jay-R, she joked, “Bungangera pa rin ako dito. Siya habol ng habol pa rin sa kin.” She explained that people have come to love the characters their tandem has taken on, as seen in Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara and Pangarap Na Bituin. Viewers simply have to watch out for more of their romantic mischief in Kapitan Boom.
