New Monkees (1987)

Formulated as an attempt to cash-in on the '80s resurgence of the popular Monkees phenomenon, the New Monkees show again saw four teen-ish boys - this time Larry, Jared, Marty, and Dino - sharing a wild & spacious house together as their aspiring "band" attempted to land a recording deal, and in the meantime kept falling into one implausible situation after another. In keeping with the earlier format, each episode also featured music videos and silly sketches aimed at its target teen & preteen audience, with material updated appropriately for its decade. Failing to recapture the chemistry of the original quartet, however (or any semblance of their ratings), the project was canned after only one LP release and a short television run.
