Royal Payne (John Larroquette, "The John Larroquette Show") and Constance Payne (JoBeth Williams, "Frasier") own and run Whispering Pines, a hotel on the California coast. Royal loves his hotel, and thinks it could be the most wonderful place in the world, but for one problem - the guests. His wife, Connie, tries to keep him in line, and the quirky hotel staff members do the best they can.
