GMA-7 showcases Filipino ingenuity in Pinoy Anime

True to its word of being the anime authority, GMA Network introduces another breakthrough in local television with Pinoy Anime, the first of its kind that highlights Philippine legends and boasts ingenuity of our Filipino anime artists.

Fitting to the standards of anime fanatics, Pinoy Anime is a 30-minute cartoon that depicts the richness of Filipino culture. It highlights four folklores of love, bravery and other good values that will surely fascinate the viewers, children and adults alike.

Pinoy Anime, which runs every Sunday mornings of February, features the stories “Egg,” “Araw at Gabi,” “100 Islands” and “Dagohoy.”

Egg won as Outstanding Thesis in ComArts in De La Salle University-Manila last 2003 and landed 1st Place in the animation category at the 5th UP Film and Video Awards while the three other Pinoy Anime were created by the ArtFarm Asia for the Kuwentong Kayumanggi Animation Festival.

The story of Egg revolves around a chicken egg placed in a duck egg (balot) factory and gets ostracized for his unique appearance. His journey leads the viewers to understand how to value oneself and how to accept one's identity.

From the Manobo tribe comes the treasured love story of Araw at Gabi. Find out in this well-illustrated, heartwarming story how fate leads the eternal love and passion of a couple to the creation of day and night.

100 Islands, meanwhile, brings to light the heroic sacrifices of Datu Mabiskeg and his men as they protect the province of Pangasinan from getting conquered by invaders in a diplomatic manner.

Dagohoy, on the other hand, is a story of a famous hero from Bohol. Legend reveals that Dagohoy is an ordinary person who acquired an incredible power, which he used in fighting against foreign invaders. Learn more of history in this animated story of Dagohoy.
