Samurai X (1996)

Samurai X

Himura Kenshin is a master-swordsman armed with a deadly reverse-edge sword and blessed with the speed of lightning. Yet he has a dark past. He fought in the war that brought about the Meiji Restoration. His dedication to the revolution's cause won him the title of Hitokiri Battousai: the number one warrior in Japan. At the end of the revolution, Kenshin decided to walk away from his past and become a vagabond.

In the 11th year of the Meiji era in Tokyo, young Kaoru Kamiya takes over her late father's martial arts school, the Kamiya Kasshin Dojo, but she is not having an easy time. The disciples are leaving because of a rumour that the legendary Battousai is murdering people under the Kamiya Dojo name.

One day, Kaoru meets a man with red hair, an 'X' scar on his face and brandishing a sword. She attacks him, believing him to be responsible for ruining Kamiya Dojo's reputation. She realizes her mistake when the real culprit turns up, and together with the red-haired man, restores her dojo's reputation. This red-haired man is none other than Kenshin, the true Battousai.
