| Smallville > Season GuideSeason # 1: High School Days Season one was a success - though, it also had its problems according to fans of the series. Many people felt that the character Whitney Fordman was underused and one-dimensional. Lionel Luthor, business tycoon and the father of Lex Luthor was so popular with the fans that he joined the cast after spending the first season as a guest star. Season # 2: Smallville Season 2 Clark's Kryptonian heritage took over the main plotline for the second season, which featured the disembodied spirit/will of Clark's father, Jor-El, being introduced. But, most well-noted out of the entire season would have to be the appearance of the former Superman, Christopher Reeve, appearing as Dr. Virgil Swann. Swann's role in the series was to tell Clark about his Kryptonian heritage. Season # 3: Smallville Season 3 The third season of Smallville was mostly about loyalty and betrayal, as well as character development. During this season, the character Pete Ross was written out of the series. Many fans complained about this, though Alfred Gough had stated that the actor playing him left due to lack of screen time. Season # 4: Smallville Season 4 Season four had a season long story arc about Clark Kent trying to find three Kryptonian stones. The season also marked the debut of Bart Allen, who was considered to be the Flash of Smallville - though he is never referred to as 'Flash' at all during his guest appearance. Season # 5: Smallville Season 5 The fifth season of the series is probably one of the darkest in the entire series. This season focused on many elements of Superman mythos including Jonathan Kent's death, Fortress of Solitude, Professor Milton Fine, Phantom Zone, and General Zod. The season ended on a cliffhanger which left Clark trapped in the Phantom Zone, and Lex Luthor being possessed by General Zod. Season # 6: Smallville Season 6 Season six sees the entrance of Green Arrow, another superhero in the world of DC Comics. Also, Jimmy Olsen makes his debut in this season, as well as many things in the Superman mythos. The Green Arrow character has seemingly taken over the original concept that the developers had with Batman... having Lex Luthor knowing the character through boarding school. Season # 7: Kryptonian Descent This season focuses on Clark Kent meeting his biological cousin Kara (Vandervoort), and teaching her how to control her abilities in public; Lana Lang's behavior toward her friends, and Lex Luthor, after it is discovered that she faked her own death; Chloe coming to terms with her newly discovered kryptonite-induced ability; and the secret of the Daily Planet's new editor Grant Gabriel. Towards the end of the season, Clark faces the dual threat from returning villain Brainiac (James Marsters), and Lex's discovery of his father's secret society who possess the means to control Clark.
