Sharron Macready, Craig Stirling, and Richard Barrett, agents for Nemesis, a United Nations organization that handles sensitive international assignments, are assigned to obtain deadly bacteria specimens from Chinese scientists in Tibet.They acquire the specimens but trigger an alarm while attempting to escape. Pursued, the Nemesis agents make it safely to an awaiting plane. Shortly after takeoff, their plane is hit by enemy gunfire and crash-lands in the forbidding Himalayas.Found by a mysterious old man, the agents are taken to a lost city inhabited by the survivors of an unknown race, where they are healed and endowed with super powers -- "their mental and physical capacities fused to computer efficiency; their sight, sense, and hearing raised to their highest possible stage of mental and physical growth." Still unconscious, Sharron, Craig, and Richard are returned to the site of the crash.Upon awakening Richard relates his "dream" of an old man and a mysterious light -- a dream he decides to pursue while Sharron and Craig continue with their mission.
