The Citadel (1983)

A British-produced series that charts the medical career of Andrew Manson, a dedicated young Scottish doctor who values truth and integrity above everything. The series, based on the 1937 novel by A.J. Cronin, begins in the Welsh mining town of Blaenelly in 1924, where Manson becomes an apprentice to Dr. Paige, an aging and bedridden physician.When Manson diagnoses an outbreak of typhoid, he becomes interested in respiratory diseases. The remaining episodes chronicle Manson's medical progress which leads him to London and gives viewers a scathing look at the British medical profession as well as his domestic life and conflicts. A "Masterpiece Theatre" presentation.
