The Critic

Jay Sherman is a New York film critic who has to review films he doesn't like for a living.

The Critic (1994)

A primetime animated series about a divorced TV film critic who lives in New York with his 11-year-old son. Acerbic New York film critic Jay Sherman, a pudgy and balding man, is not well-liked. As host of Cable Channel 67's "Coming Attractions," Jay is called upon to review films which, although loved by the public, fall far short of his impossibly high critical standards. Making his job even more intolerable is Jay's unsympathetic boss, megalomaniacal station owner Duke Phillips, who thinks nothing of humiliating Jay with shameless efforts to boost ratings. Jay's home life is no picnic either. He's a divorced father, hated by his ex-wife and barely tolerated by his adoptive parents, Franklin and Eleanor. Fortunately, Jay has a much warmer relationship with his sweet, 16-year-old stepsister, Margo, and his 11-year-old son, Marty.
