The New People (1969)

A small inter-island charter, enroute from southeast Asia to the mainland, is caught in a fierce storm and damaged. The plane crashlands on Buamo, a remote Pacific island once operated by the Atomic Energy Commission as a bombsite but abandoned due to contamination fears. Of the fifty passengers on board, forty American college students in a cultural exchange program survive. Stories relate their struggles to establish a society untouched by the destruction of modern man.
