Created in 1997 by veteran journalist Barbara Walters, "The View" is a morning talk show with a twist: it's hosted by five women. Reporter Meredith Vieira, former lawyer Star Jones Reynolds, comedian Joy Behar and conservative twenty-something Elizabeth Hasselback (along with Walters) each offer their own unique take on the day's news during the opening "Hot Topics" segment. Later, the ladies welcome various TV/film/music celebrities, who join them for a chat and/or perform for the studio audience. The show also offers tips on beauty, fashion, diet and relationships. Known for their free-wheeling hosting style, the ladies often find themselves lampooned on late night sketch shows. |
