When Things Were Rotten

Robin Hood and His Merry Men are given the Mel Brooks' treatment.

When Things Were Rotten (1975)

A satire based on the legend of Robin Hood. The series, set in twelfth-century England, depicts Robin Hood, the man who stole from the rich to give to the poor, as a birdbrain; his Merry Men, free-born Englishmen loyal to the king, as bumbling klutzes; and Maid Marian, Robin's romantic interest, as a sexy dumb blonde. The legend begins when Prince John usurps the throne of his brother, Richard the Lionhearted, and imposes an unfair tax on the Saxons. When Sir Robin of Locksley opposes this, he is declared a criminal. Retreating to Sherwood Forest, Robin establishes a base and organizes his group of Merry Men.Episodes depict Robin's efforts to return the throne to Richard, protect the weak, avenge the oppressed, and foil the evils of the Sheriff of Nottingham, who seeks to destroy him.
