1st Star Awards for Music to be held at the Skydome, SM North

All is set for this year's first Star Awards for Music, to be held on October 29, at 6 pm at the Skydome of the SM North EDSA, Quezon City. An initial venture in local music awards for the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC), the 1st Star Awards for Music has hit a meaningful note and sets the right keys for charity.

For this undertaking, the PMPC is joined by the other local scribes groups, namely the National Press Club (NPC) and the AFIMA (Alyansa ng mga Filipinong Mamamahayag). The NPC and the AFIMA serve as the awards show's producers.

Their joint effort in giving recognition to the pillars and moving forces behind the current success of the Philippine music industry comes with a noble aim at giving all-out support to fellow Filipinos who have been victimized by the onslaught of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng over the past two to three weeks.

Giving charitable contributions and donations isn't new to these clubs. Time and again, the PMPC and its allied groups, have organized countless benefit shows. With its annual awards-giving activities (for the movie and television industries), the local movie and TV press organization has evolved through worthwhile endeavors. And it's not yet about to give up on such a task--and privilege.

Not at this time when most of our kababayans need help from friends like the NPC, AFIMA, and the PMPC. Their respective heads, Benny Antiporda, Jerry Yap, and Roldan Castro, are making sure the combined efforts of each club would benefit our needy fellowmen.

Dubbed Panahon Na (Awit Ng Pagkakaisa), based on a composition (music & lyrics) by Dingdong Avanzado, the 1st Star Awards for Music 2009 is a gathering of some of the great names in the Philippine music industry.

To receive the Lifetime Achievement Award is the legendary APO Hiking Society (composed of Danny Javier, Boboy Garovillo, and Jim Paredes).

The PMPC, NPC, and AFIMA give due recognition to the outstanding talents--composers, lyricists, arrangers and singers--and foster unity among artists who share the love for music.

To be hosted by Janno Gibbs, Billy Crawford, Toni Gonzaga, the 1st Star Awards for Music 2009 is considered a blue carpet affair. Invited celebrities will come in fashionable blue attire, including guests performers Jed Madela, Richard Poon, Jay-R, Bayang Barrios, Allan K, Faith Cuneta, Gerald Santos, Eva Castillo, Jan Nieto, Chris Cayzer, and Gloc 9.

Reality show contestants Laarni Lozada of Pinoy Dream Academy will share the stage with Pinoy Idol's Gretchen Espina, as well as Are You the Next Big Star winners Geoff Taylor and Francheska Farr. Sexy groups Mocha Girls, Sexbomb Dancers, and other popular celebrities of the local music scene are also expected to grace the event.

Star Awards for Music will also be showing its Primer which will feature Blakdyak, Myrus, Dagtang Lason, Dance Squad Singers, Himig Ariel, Zara Aldana with Page Xclusiv, Michelle, Cardio Boys, Nico Antonio, Jay Ann Bautista, Daryl Lagos, and Mae Florez.

Doing a special production number of his composition, Panahon Na (Awit Ng Pagkakaisa) is singer-composer Dingdong Avanzado. Also lined up is a surprise finale number.
