| 2007 Yearender: A look back Column: Freehand IT'S THE TIME of year when we have to look back at past events before ringing in the new year. FEUDS 2007 started with the reported tiff of Gretchen Barretto and Dawn Zulueta while shooting the TV commercial for Pantene with Ruffa Gutierrez and Gretchen Aquino. Dawn allegedly complained because Gretchen brought so many bodyguards and paraphernalia on the set, including a microwave oven. This leaked to the press, who expectedly turned a molehill into a mountain. As a result, the idea to make Gretchen and Dawn co-star with Ruffa Gutierrez and Pops Fernandez in a local version of "Desperated Housewives" was scrapped and when it was resurrected for the 2007 filmfest, only Ruffa was retained in its cast. Gretchen is one of the most controversial showbiz personalities this year. A few months later, she got engaged in a word war with Lani Mercado. Lani was just asked what her birthday wish is for Gretchen and she innocently answered that it's a wedding with Gretchen's longtime companion, Tonyboy Cojuangco, as Gretchen previously mentioned that she dreams of having a wedding with him someday. The supporters of Lani were jubilant when Gretchen got her karma later. She was photographed kissing John Estrada (who was already being linked to her) on the lips at the birthday party of Rufa Mae Quinto in May. This was circulated in cellphones and on the internet. It was called "kisscandal" and became the talk of the town, with people asking why Gretchen did it when everyone knows she's been with Tonyboy for 11 years. This time, the usually talkative Gretchen chose to keep her mouth shut and accompanied Tonyboy for his throat surgery in Boston. Some people said Tonyboy got sick because of the "kisscandal" but Gretchen said it's an ailment that has long been bothering him. One good thing that happened to Gretchen is that she reconciled with her sisters. First with Claudine and, later on, with Marjorie, both of whom she has not talked with for ages. She saw Claudine by accident in a supermarket at the Fort and that's where they first greeted each other. When Claudine gave birth to her son, Santino, Gretchen visited her at the hospital Lani and Bong also had an ugly tiff with their ex-future "balae", Rosanna Roces, who said so many things against them. They deciced to keep quiet and when they all saw each other at the birthday of Cristy Fermin at Metro Bar, they all reconciled for the sake of their grandson, Gabriel. But their kids never got back together. Osang's daughter, Grace Adriano, has a new boyfriend, said to be a black guy, while Jolo Revilla also has a new girlfriend. Another "fighting" star is Alessandra de Rossi. She got jealous with Jennylyn Mercado when she was still on with Jeremy Marquez and had a rift with her. At the taping of the new show "Luv Pow" (that was never aired), she was exchanging jokes with the cast and crew but when Rhian Ramos made a joke with her, she got annoyed and threw down her cellphone. Some folks tried to patch things up with them but she refused to be on friendlier terms with Rhia. One serious fight was between ex-married couple Pops Fernandez and Martin Nievera. Pops learned that Martin's current squeeze, Katrina Ojeda, remarked that their sons Robin and Ram jumped up and down the bed of Katrina and Martin like monkeys and she felt bad about this. Martin said it happened years ago and the word was taken out of context. Pops, who says she's now happy in her relationship with Jomari Yllana, was not appeased by Martin's explanation. Things got worse when, in an interview with Yes Magazine, she revealed all the ugly sins of Martin against her when they were still living together. For a while, Martin's camp threatened to sue but they never did. Up to now, the ex-couple are not on speaking terms. FALLING IN, FALLING OUT OF LOVE As for Jen's ex, Mark Herras, he has found a new love in EB Babe Lian Paz. Uma Khouny of PBB 1 admitted that he is already married in Israel, but he said it's just a marriage of convenience to help a Filipina friend who's looking for a job there. Estranged couple Shiela Ysrael and Dan Fernandez reconciled after a bitter separation and, as a result, Dan won as congressman in Laguna in the last election. Toni Gonzaga found her first boyfriend in TV commercial director Paul Soriano, grandson of the late 1950s matinee idol Nestor de Villa of LVN Pictures. Alfred Vargas and LJ Reyes broke up, reconciled briefly, then broke up again before 2007 ended. Pinag-usapan din ang paghihiwalay nina Angel Locsin at Oyo Sotto, allegedly dahil pareho silang sobrang busy at wala silang time sa isa't isa. Lumipat si Oyo sa ABS-CBN. Ipinareha sa dati niyang girlfriend na si Anne Curtis sa TV remake ng "May Minamahal", pero hindi iyon nag-rate. Pauleen Luna went steady with Marvin Agustin, who's 11 years older, but broke up quickly upon the request of her parents. Just a few months later, she found a new boyfriend in Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian, who's 15 years older than her. Michelle Madrigal went steady with Victor Neri, who's 10 years older than Michelle, but the relationship quickly ended in a split up. Ara Mina and Polo Ravales also broke up allegedly because they're both so busy and have no time for each other. Other couples who broke up were Nancy Castiliogne and Brad Turvey, and Katrina Halili and Bullet Jalosjos. Bullet is Nancy's ex-BF. Katrina only admitted they broke up after they split up and she's quite bitter saying he was not nice to her. Diether Ocampo and Kristine Hermosa never admitted they got married but the truth came out when Kristine filed a case seeking annulment of their marriage in Jaen, Nueva Ecija. They have a very nebulous relationship as they keep on saying they're still in love with each other, but Kristine is now being linked to Oyo Sotto. Another couple who broke up was Rufa Mae Quinto and singer Erik Santos, whose relationship lasted for about a year. Rufa Mae is now being linked to Billy Crawford.
