A boy for Camille; a girl for Migz & Audrey

Curtain-raisers:

• Yes, it's a boy for Camille Prats who's giving birth anytime now in the US where she flew during the last quarter of 2007 to wait for her date with the stork. Camille's pregnancy was headline news last year because it came as a shock especially to those who still look at her as the little girl who won the hearts of televiewers as the title role in the ABS-CBN soap Princess Sarah. Camille and her non-showbiz boyfriend are planning to get married maybe before end of this year.

• Meanwhile, Sen. Migz Zubiri and his wife Audrey Tan are expecting their first child on June 12, to be named Adrianna. "It's an 'Independence Day' baby," Migz told Funfare during a chance encounter Sunday morning in Cebu during the Sinulog Festival. Migz barely made it to the No. 13 slot in a hotly-contested senatorial race last May in which Audrey, a neophyte in the political arena, actively campaigned for Migz.

• A few years after they cut short their clandestine romance, a pop singer obviously still feels "something" for a petite singer who has since gone to the US and married her American boyfriend. The singer who, as far as I know, is happily married and has children, has been trying to renew his "ties" with his beloved "ex" who is here for a visit. But friends have been warning the Balikbayan singer to be very careful since she's now married unlike years back at the height of the affair when she was fancy-free (even when he was not).

Pinoy band gets special mention in Time mag

Have you heard of a boy band called Out of Body Special? You must have but I haven't -- until I saw it in the latest issue of Time mag which features the band among the "Five Asian Acts to Watch in 2008. " The four others are Goodnight Electric (Indonesia), Cornelius (Japan), P. K. 14 (China) and The Analog Girl (Singapore).

I gathered from the Time story that OBS was formed in Ateneo in 2004, composed of Ted Mark Cruz, 25, drummer; Patrick Co, 23, guitarist; Diego Beltran, 24, percussionist; Garon Honasan, 27, saxophonist; Martin Veerayah, 23, guitarist; and Carlos "Los" Magno, 23, front man. The band released its debut album, Is Love, in November last year.

"The OBS, a brand new flavor/doing you a favor/stereotype breaker," Time quoted this rap from Magno and, observed that "Those are sentiments that have been expressed countless times in an industry where practically every new entrant claims to be offering something new, but with OBS's compelling fusion of genres (rock, deep funk. soul, R 'n B, jazz and latin) to back him up, it appears Magno's boast might have a ring of truth -- at least in the otherwise predictable world of Asian hip-hop. "

The OBS boys claim that their diverse influences "is a blessing" -- Magno's range from Babyface to Tupac; Cruz, funk and Latin styles; Co and Beltran, grunge; and Honasan and Veerayah, heavy metal.

"We can go wild: do a break here, play this, lace in that," Magno explained to Time. "Our only rule is not to copy. "

Concluded Time:

That principle serves them well in a country where technical mastery is commonplace, and is embodied in their first single, the hard funk Soundcheck -- a massive hit in the Philippines.

And with that, Funfare reminds you to check out the Out of Body band.

Citizen Pinoy and your 'American Dream'

For more than three years now, immigration lawyer and STAR columnist  Michael J. Gurfinkel and co-host Gel Santos-Relos' show Citizen Pinoy has been a regular weekly staple on TFC (The Filipino Channel) and on the ABS-CBN News Channel ANC locally.

Known as the "Attorney to the Stars", Gurfinkel has helped many Filipino celebrities, including Christopher de Leon  who attained his US citizenship, Gina Alajar and family who obtained their green cards through their extra-ordinary-ability visas, and securing entertainment visas for, among others, Sharon Cuneta, Sarah Geronimo, John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Regine Velasquez and Willie Revillame. Most recently, Gurfinkel processed Charice Pempengco's visa within a record two weeks, so she could appear on the Ellen DeGeneres show in Los Angeles.

However, celebrities are just a small fraction of the list of people Gurfinkel has helped over the years. He regularly visits Manila to continue his mission of helping Filipinos.

This time, for an unprecedented sixth season, he is again fulfilling his personal crusade of "Bringing Families Together," which is not all shows or episodes but dissemination of information followed by implementation. Gurfinkel has solved the immigration problems of thousands of Filipinos so they could be reunited with their loved ones and live the "American Dream. "

If you want to pursue your "American Dream," you have another chance to ask Gurfinkel personally all your U. S. immigration concerns as ABS-CBN International again brings Citizen Pinoy again to Manila. You are invited to be part of the live studio audience for the taping of  Citizen Pinoy at ABS-CBN Studios in Mother Ignacia St. Quezon City, this Sunday, Jan. 27. Three tapings are scheduled: 9 a. m., 1 p. m. and 4 p. m.

(For more details visit the website: www. citizenpinoy. com or call 894-0239 or 894-0258 from 8 a. m. to 5 p. m.)
