A passion for life

DON'T forget--If you want to do your share in protecting our planet from global warming, join us, and those in 2,848 cities and municipalities, from 84 countries, as we turn off our lights for one hour tonight, starting at 8:30 p.m. That's a paltry sum to pay for making our planet last longer for our children's children.

A couple of events I recently attended would make one think initially that they are two completely contrasting things--one is a necessity, and the other a luxury. However, when we really analyze them closer, they are really the same--they're both a necessity AND a luxury.

Hospital with a heart

The Makati Medical Center recently inaugurated its new building, an ultra-modern, state-of-the-art facility, stressing once more its commitment to providing top-of-the-line health care services to the continuously growing number of residents in the metropolis.

Some of the more influential people in the country showed up in support of the hospital, and they were led by Makati Med chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan. Guest of honor Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay delivered the keynote address, while the hospital's incoming president Rose Montenegro, executive vice president/director for Professional Services Dr. Manuel Fernandez, and medical director Dr. Benjamin Alimurung helped welcome the town's gliteratti who trooped to the new medical facility.

Guests were given a guided tour of the new building, as cocktails were served, while chanteuse Rachel Alejandro delighted the crowd with her vocal renditions.

By the lake

Because of the stress of city living, people now look forward to going home to a place where they can recharge, a comfortable and safe haven for the whole family to grow in. Crown Asia, a renowned leader in the real estate industry with over 10 years of experience in developing master-planned communities, now banners Lakefront, 60 hectares of prime property conveniently located near the South Superhighway Sucat Exit, with a 180-degree view of Laguna de Bay and the Sierra Madre mountains.

Its chief executive Mark Villar, Sales and Marketing head Nova Noval and Corporate Communications head Camille Villar recently gathered prospective buyers and special friends at The Wharf, Lakefront's commercial complex, to a night of great food, courtesy of Costello, and the '60s music of Bloomfields, as the company's marketing team gave an impressive preview of their premier properties. These are Presidio, Marina Heights, Victorianne, Ponticelli, and Valenza, to name a few, set to reshape the urban landscape of the metro, soon!

YOUR WEEKEND CHUCKLE:

One Sunday, a young couple invited their elderly pastor for dinner. While the husband-and-wife team was busy in the kitchen preparing the meal, the pastor was left alone in the living room with the couple's 6-year-old son. Striking up a conversation, the pastor asked the little boy, "So, what's for dinner?" "Goat," the boy replied. "Goat?" asked the startled man of the cloth, "are you sure?" "Yup," said the youngster. "I heard dad say to mom this morning, 'Tonight, we're having the old goat for dinner'."
