| Acting awards: Very 1st for Heart, 2nd time for Kuya GermsAuthor: Tempo Unexpected victory - Heart Evangelista says the FAMAS best actress award for "Ay Ayeng" was most unexpected. How could she win against the likes of Sharon Cuneta, Judy Ann Santos, Dawn Zulueta? She wanted to attend, "You know, wear a gown and walk the red carpet." But a friend advised her, "Matulog ka na lang, marami kang trabaho bukas." And so she was fast asleep when her dad woke her up shortly before midnight to announce, "Nanalo ka." Her very first acting award. Her friend Jun Lalin called up her mother who, in turn, told her father of the welcome unexpected news. Heart's parents threw a victory party for the press at the family-owned Barrio Fiesta at Megamall, attended by Mother Lily Monteverde, Annabelle Rama (her manager), Kuya Germs (Moreno), himself a FAMAS awardee, best supporting actor for "Paupahan." Annabelle ordered lechon Cebu, served with the other Barrio Fiesta dishes: pinakbet, crispy pata, fried chicken, kare-kare. Sumptuous. Annabelle said that Heart's dad wanted a five-star venue for the party, but she said, "Sa Barrio Fiesta na lang, mas masarap ang pagkain." How true. By the way, Heart has another Metro filmfest entry, the Dolphy starrer "Juan," directed by Eric Quizon. "Paupahan" also gave Snooky Serna the FAMAS best supporting actress award, Allen Dizon the best actor and Dennis Evangelista the best screenplay trophies. Winners of the German Moreno Youth Award were Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal, Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu. But Gerald and Kim left even before they could receive their trophies, saying they had other commitments. Uncalled for, knowing they were honorees Gerald and Kim (or their handlers - alalays should have nixed other appointments). His career covers several decades, marked by ups and downs, tears and laughter, so like the two faces of a clown. Come to think it, "German Moreno: Master Showman," will make a most apt title of the book. Source: Tempo |
