IN compliance with the Comelec ruling, actor and Atenean alumnus Alfred Vargas will take a leave from showbiz in preparation for his political bid. Next month, the businessman actor will file his candidacy as councilor for the second district of Quezon City.

Entering the political arena is something he thought long and hard which was what his parents advised him to do.

"Politics is a new field for me and definitely a big challenge. After weighing the pros and cons, I made a decision to give it a try. I would like to consider it a calling just like entering priesthood. Ever since high school I have been involved in various civic works. I would like to think that by nature I love to help people," he said.

Alfred was my special guest in a birthday dinner tendered by PVB's vice president for Communications, Mike Villa-Real and his wife Pearl recently at the Shangri-La Edsa Hotel. He supports the ongoing World War II project exhibit conceived by Villa-Real two years ago. As an actor, Alfred dreams of portraying the life of Gregorio del Pilar.

Alfred could have aspired for a higher seat in the government like vice mayor perhaps.

"I started from scratch in showbusiness at ganito din ang gusto kong mangyari sa aking political career. I wanted to learn the ropes from the bottom. It will also allow me to go on acting which is my means of livelihood," he explained.

Alfred has wrapped up work for "Darna" where he plays an investigative reporter trying to solve the mystery surrounding Narda's character.

He has also been part of the Kapuso team in distributing relief goods to the countless victims of two typhoons, "Ondoy" and "Pepeng. "

Incidentally, another Kapuso, sexy star Ara Mina is also aiming for the same seat in the same district that Alfred is targeting.

That's interesting to watch come election time.
