| Angel deniesknowing taipans son![]() Author: Mario E. Bautista Katrina Halili confronted DJ Mo in "Showbiz Central" recently. DJ Mo reportedly said on the air that Katrina is the worst actress in local showbiz and when she won in the poll the show conducted over who?s sexier between her and Cristine Reyes, DJ Mo again remarked that it?s actually Cristine who is sexier between the two of them. Katrina faced him at asked: "Bakit mo ko inookray, e ni hindi naman tayo magkakilala? How can you say I?m the worst actress, napanood mo ba lahat ng movies at TV shows ko?" It was Rufa Mae Quinto who urged Katrina to confront Mo as she herself had some grudges against him because of Erik Santos but she never got the nerve to reprimand Mo about it. I really don?t care kung hindi niya ako gusto bilang artista, I don?t have to please him naman. Sa?kin lang, magpakatotoo siya at hindi ?yung kapag hinarap na siya ng inookray niya, naduduwag siya." *** Is it true Nancy Castiliogne did not show up at the pictorial and CCP preview of "Signos" because she felt insecure with PBB?s Chx Alcala who?s her rival for Luis Alandy?s attention in the movie? "I didn?t know my absence will be such a big issue," says Nancy. "Now, heto ako sa presscon to show na I have nothing against Chx. The truth is we never met sa shooting dahil hindi kami magkaeksena. Her scenes with Luis are all set in the province at ako naman, dito sa Manila." She then extends her hand to Chx and they shake hands. "That?s true," says Chx. "First time namin to meet." "Actually, excited ako with ?Signos? as it?s my first indie film and I want to do more kasi they?re different from mainstream movies in concept and execution," says Nancy. "Suwerte nga I just did another one with Jao Mapa, directed by Deo Fajardo." Nancy has had four boyfriends: Luis Manzano, Paolo Contis, Bullet Jalosjos and Brad Turvey. Among them, she admits it?s only Paolo with whom she?s not chummy. "He didn?t take it well when I said I?m not ready yet to settle down with him. We?re engaged at may singsing na kami, but he?s only 21 and I?m 24. I felt we should not rush and he didn?t like my decision. Now, I?m glad may iba na siyang girlfriend." In "Signos," Nancy plays Luis? legal wife who?s based in Manila, while Chx is his first girlfriend who he meets again when he goes home to their province after he got word that his dad, Ricky Davao, had a heart attack. This will lead to a series of terrifying events when people in their hometown start dying mysteriously. *** The next episodes of "Abt Ur Luv" will show its young stars traveling on board a cruise ship around Asia and the experience was really very exciting for them. But this Saturday at 10 a.m., the episode "Showing You Care" will show the barkada planning to watch a movie. The boys tease Junaps (Bryan Homecillo) for not having a date. When Monique (Daphne Cortez) heard about this, she volunteers to be his date and Junaps is ecstatic. Lheny (Jessy Mendiola), in turn, volunteers to help PJ (John Wayne Sace), her crush, in courting Waling (Erich Gonzales), even if it would be painful for her. Brenda (Carla Humphries) acts as a bridge between her former boyfriend, Stick (Victor Basa), and Honey (Megan Young), who?s got a big crush on Stick. Former sweethearts Hill (Empress Schuck) and Bill (Dino Imperial) continue to avoid each other. Bill goes out with Fiona (Isabel Abiera) while Hill is friendly with Blue (Enchong Dee). Nelle (Lauren Young) makes Josh (AJ Perez) jealous when she agrees to be Prince?s (Arno Morales) date in the movies. Josh decides not to go and instead plays basketball with Web (Angelo Patrimonio) only to find out later that Nelle didn?t go with Arno. *** Studio 23 managing director Leo Katigbak is bent on improving their programming and has axed many local shows like "Breakfast," "Blog" and "It?s a Guy Thing." One of the survivors is "Us Girls," hosted by Angel Aquino, Cheska Garcia and Yia Villania, that continues to rate well. Why did they survive the cancellations? "Dahil lagi na kaming naghuhubad to involve male viewers?" Angel jokes. "Seriously, the show gained more viewers as we now also cater to the male market. Our ratings went high when we featured cars in the show, which means it pays to expand your target audience." The three hosts are open about their respective love lives. Cheska is all set to marry cager Doug Kramer on October 9, 2008. Iya is still cozy with TV host Drew Arellano. "It?s not sure kung tatagal kami habambuhay, but I think it?s worth giving it a shot," adds Iya. As for Angel, she?s been going steady with Lui Villaruz for seven months now. "But we have no plans yet of getting married as he?s still finding new avenues after his show, ?Magandang Umaga Pilipinas? was cancelled," she says. Leo says Studio 23?s target are the "yupsters," young people who have short attention span. "That?s why we have to keep reinventing our shows, our programming, to always offer something different." For their foreign shows, he says the new seasons of "Grey?s Anatomy," "Smallville," and "Desperate Housewives" will now be aired almost simultaneously as in the States. "Viewers no longer have to wait 4 to 12 months before they get to see the new episodes of their favorite shows," he adds. "We?ll also air the new seasons of hits like ?Lost,? ?Ghost Whisperer,? ?Two and a Half Men,? the final season of ?7th Heaven,? and the toprated comedy ?Rules of Engagement.?" They?re now airing two new shows that are warmly received by viewers, "Kyle XY" (about a teenage boy who wakes up naked in the forest and who might be an alien from outer space) and "Brothers and Sisters" (a comedy drama headlined by two-time Oscar winner Sally Field). "Wazzup Wazzup" will be reformatted to air every Saturday. Taking its place is the youth-oriented show, "Rush TV," to be aired Monday to Saturday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. *** Several writers say it was Angel Locsin herself who told them one of her associates in the business she?s putting up is a son of tycoon Lucio Tan named Joel. This happened at the big presscon of the movie she produced, "Angels," held at Grand Terrace along Commonwealth Avenue. Among the writers who heard her mention his name were Ethel Ramos, Ian Farinas and Jun Lalin. That?s why they were surprised when she later declared that she doesn?t know anyone from Lucio Tan?s family. Ethel even asked her "Anak ni Lucio Tan?" and she said yes. Now, she?s denying it. *** Sam Concepcion proved his drawing power in theatre when his "High School Musical" became a big hit during its extended run at the Meralco Theater. At 15 going on 16, Sam is no longer a boy, but not yet a man. Someone describes him best as "Nagbibinata." Universal Records believes in his talent so much that they got him to record his first album, knowing he has his own legion of bagets fans. Polite and well bred, he projects a very wholesome image and this can be gleaned even from the songs in his album, which has 11 cuts. The first single is his catchy danceable version of "Even If," which has a bouncy music video he did with Cheska Ortega, his leading lady in "High School Musical," directed by Paul Soriano, the boyfriend of Toni Gonzaga. His own version of Michael Jackson?s "Happy" is surely a winner. Other good cuts are "Da Doo Ron Ron," "Stay the Same," "Hanggang Tingin," "Kay Dali," "Paano Na" and "Wishing You?ll Be Mine." *** Edu Manzano has a killer schedule since he has two daily shows, "Game KNB" and "Umagang Kay Ganda," and also heads the Optical Media Board. "I wake up at 3 nang madaling araw just to make sure hindi ako ma-late for my morning show," he says. "Then twice a week, I tape ?Game KNB? from 6 to 10 p.m. And I have to report sa OMB everyday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m." But despite his hectic sked and his personal battle against child pornography, he still found time to do a dance album for Universal Records, "World?s Greatest Dance Steps." It includes two smash hits, "Chacaroon" and "Papaya," that we often hear being played while he dances in "Gama KNB." "Dancing is a good form of exercise," says Edu, who?s turning 52 soon but looks 20 years younger. "Everyone should get a copy of my dance album and try it to keep fit and young." So does this mean he will soon be doing dance numbers in shows like "U Can Dance" and "Shall We Dance"? "Ang pagsayaw ko naman, hindi panlaban o pam-professional. I just do it more as a pasttime at para aliwin lang ang viewers ng ?Game KNB.? It?s just a newly discovered talent of mine." But would he be willing to do dance numbers with his ex-wives, Vilma Santos and Maricel Soriano, who are both excellent dancers? "Why not? Ang fear ko, lang baka mapasubo sila sa akin," he laughs. Edu?s "World Greatest Dance Steps" has 14 cuts. Source: Malaya |
