Angel returns to primetime without Piolo

After Lobo, which starred her opposite Piolo Pascual, Angel Locsin is back on prime time with the local version of the Koreanovela Only You.

“It feels good and refreshing that I have a new regular show. It’s a big production, with a cute story line, breathtaking backdrops and an impressive lineup of co-stars. Imagine my leading men here are Sam Milby and Diether Ocampo. Giving valuable support are Iya Villania, Tirso Cruz III, Candy Pangilinan, Dimples Romana, Al Tantay, Irma Adlawan, Bing Pimentel and Dick Israel. Add to this the fact that it is being directed by the critically-acclaimed Rory Quintos. Given these, I think it will become a hit among the viewers,” she says.

This is Angel’s first TV show that has her playing the role of an ordinary human being without any super power or magic.

“Yes, and that’s what’s making me excited! The project is different from all the others that I have done before. Only You is a very light, feel-good material. Our main goal is to make the audience fall in love once again. I have lots of ‘kilig’ scenes with both Sam and Diet here that I am sure will tickle their fancy.”

Some of the key scenes were shot in Korea.

“That’s an added feature. We visited some of the popular sites in South Korea to have the feel of the original and make the scenes authentic. You’ll see trees and snow in the background,” assures Angel.

Will the trio work this time?

“Thank God, after our initial photo shoots together, our bosses noticed that we have chemistry, that we complement each other. It became more obvious when the cameras started to grind.”

Angel plays a chef in the story. The role in the series tapped her interest in cooking.

“That’s true! It’s my new passion. Before, cooking didn’t appeal to me that much but now, I enjoy it since I have many scenes in the show where I prepare food. In fact, Iya and I promised to further our knowledge in cooking by enrolling in special classes. This is in preparation for the time when we will settle down in the future.”

More quality time with Regine

At the recent press conference for the new game show Hole in the Wall, Ogie Alcasid, who hosts the show alongside Michael V, admitted that these days, he wishes to spend more quality time with his lady love Regine Velasquez.

“Well, perhaps, it’s due to the fact that I’m not getting any younger. I’m 41 years old. I feel that when I’m not with her, it’s like half of me is missing. It’s hard on our part as performers since our schedules can be crazy. There are moments when we don’t have time for each other because of our workload.

“Like this May, she’ll leave for the US leg of their Divas Four Divas concert along with Kuh Ledesma, Zsa Zsa Padilla and Pops Fernandez. As for me, I’m busy shooting for OMG [Oh My Girl!] opposite Judy Ann Santos. Apart from that, we also have our respective regular shows for GMA.

“But hopefully, we’ll be reunited in Celebrity Duets 3 in the third quarter of this year. Also, by December, the two of us will be out-of-the-country for three weeks. We’ll have shows in the UK so we’ll be together. Anyway, our communication lines are always open. What’s good with Regine and me, we adjust to each other’s schedule,” he reveals.

Interestingly, what Ogie appreciates most about Regine nowadays is her all-out support for his acting career.

“After Desperadas 2, I felt I wanted to give more time to acting this year. When Mother Lily [Monteverde] gave her nod on my movie with Judai, Regine was the first one who got excited for me. She’s always proud of my work.

“Here in OMG [Oh My Girl!], the two of us are part of the writing team. Apart from that, she also acts as my stylist because she helps me with my looks. My part requires me to dress like a woman. Regine is very supportive. I couldn’t ask for more!” the singer-composer-host happily ends.

The nominees are...

On its sixth year, the Golden Screen Awards by the Entertainment Press Society Inc. will hand out its annual choices for last year’s best on April 30, Thursday, at Metro Bar on West Avenue, Quezon City.

This year’s nominee include, for Best Motion Picture-Drama—Boses, Brutus, Concerto, Jay, and 100, the Judy Ann Santos-starrer Ploning and the Cinema One Originals horror-drama stand-out Yanggaw.

Meanwhile, three high-spirited comedies battle it out for Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy: A Very Special Love, Fuschia, and My Best Friend’s Girlfriend.

A welcome addition to the existing categories is Best Motion Picture-Animation with two nominees —Dayo and Urduja.

In the acting categories, nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role-Drama are Anita Linda as the former radio talent reduced to living in the slums in Adela, Dawn Zulueta as the supportive wife of a dying man in Magkaibigan, Jodi Santamaria as the demented heroine in Sisa, Mylene Dizon as the woman with a bucket list in 100, Sharon Cuneta as the beleaguered OFW wife and mother in Caregiver, and Judy Ann Santos as the quiet, mysterious spinster in Ploning.

In the Best Actor in a Leading Role-Drama category, it is going to be contested by Baron Geisler as the gay documentarist in Jay, Carlo Aquino for Carnivore, Christopher de Leon as the cancer-stricken friend in Magkaibigan, Jericho Rosales as the romantic hero in Baler, Ronnie Lazaro as the father of a vampire daughter in Yanggaw, Yul Servo as the cuckolded husband in Torotot and Jay Aquitania as the young man coming of age at a time of war in Concerto.

Industry veteran Anita Linda is this year’s recipient of the Gawad Lino Brocka Lifetime Achievement award.
