Have a taste of the hottest dessert ever served on television with ABS-CBN’s newest all-female gag show Banana Split which started last Oct. 11. Lead stars Angelica Panganiban, Cristine Reyes, Roxanne Guinoo and Valerie Conception, together with RR Enriquez, Princess Ryan and Dianne Medina, lighten up your weekends with their irresistible charm and wacky antics. Banana Split will have weekly episodes full of hilarious sketches and sought-after heartthrobs as guests, which include Zanjoe Marudo, Diether Ocampo, John Lloyd Cruz, Jake Cuenca and Sam Milby.

“We will be inviting one hunk every week to balance the girls’ antics here. We turn the tables around in this show because now, the girls get to pull pranks and ‘play’ with the male guests,” said director Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz. Bobot is confident that the young actresses who are known for portraying dramatic roles will do well in comedy given the well-written materials and gags. “We have already taped several episodes and I’m very satisfied with their performance,” he said. The cast members, on the other hand, welcome the chance to do comedy — a “breather” to their daily grind.

Sam chose all songs for his first solo concert

Sam Milby got to select all 44 songs that will be included in his concert, “I Am Sam: Rockoustic Heartthrob.” He chose melodies he grew up with, more like the soundtrack of his young life. The songs are suited to his taste for rock music and vocal style. He told Buzzstation that there will be a lot of medleys for all these songs to be heard, and that he would have a duet with Journey lead singer Arnel Pineda, though he is not at liberty to mention what song they will interpret. He will also have numbers with Yeng Constantino and Pokwang. Sam will also dance with the Dynamite Dance Crew for added variety. So prepare to be entertained. Sam chose the Aliw Theater because he wants to really connect with his audience. Sam says he practices his songs daily even though he feels that he is ready because he want[s] to be really confident.

Popular TV figure with a secret identity, a wife beater?

The wife of this very popular television figure, a pivotal character in a game show with a secret identity as hosted by a high profile celebrity whose real identity is a hidden fact, separated from him last July.

He was allegedly a former nursing student and she a former beauty queen who was dethroned when this television figure made her pregnant. She is now moonlighting as an entertainer. She is a Puerto Princesa, Palawan native.

They were married last April 2006. Although she did not state the real cause of the separation, preferring to say, “Di ko na masikmura ang pinaggagawa niya sa akin,” talk is it has something to do with beating. Will this incident finally crack the television figure’s secret identity? Will his former wife be merciless in revealing to the public his real identity? For one, she has revealed that this man’s surname is Delfin. What will stop her from cracking his hard-to-detect identity if she has an axe to grind against him?

New energy drink

Valerie Concepcion has an animated, energetic voice when hosting, giving her that natural upbeat peppiness that is hers alone. This is the main reason she was noticed by Energo.

Nowadays, she is extremely busy with her regular hosting in Wowowee, which brought her to Canada and back, her new show Banana Split, and also her recently released Slendance fitness album. She says, “When I’m tired, I just take Energo.” When Gilbert Geolingo, a product associate of Energo, was asked why Valerie was their one and only choice to be their endorser, he said, “Valerie is fit, she has this mass appeal which will help Energo cross any economic status, and we also want to tap the female market.” The drink, he adds, is safe and BFAD-approved. Whether you’re a man or woman, blue- or white-collar worker, sustain your energy just like Valerie by going for Energo, a drink that’s 100 percent Filipino.

TV5 to cancel five shows

To give Buzzstation readers a heads up, TV5, which is now Malaysian-financed, will cancel at least five new shows. Among the shows that will not be renewed are Miss Match as hosted by Iya Villania, and MP3, the talk show as hosted by Reema Chanco. Other shows will not be renewed, possibly those produced by outside suppliers. This may include Laurice Guillen’s HushHush starring her daughters Ina and Anna Feleo. They were among the batch of shows introduced last August when TV5 was launched. Since they did not fly, they were allowed to finish their first season then cancelled.

Get the 18-track album just perfect to get you into a holiday mood featuring carrier singles, Pinoy holiday revival “Nakaraang Pasko” (originally popularized by Kuh Ledesma) and classic OPM Christmas song “Pasko Na Sinta Ko.”

Inspirational songs from Martin himself could sound even more uplifting with Basil Valdez’s original, “Lift Up Your Hands;” Kenny Loggin’s “Celebrate Me Home” and “In Christ Alone.” Another inspirational song is “Forever I’m Yours,” where Martin joins up with his sons Robin, who also composed this song, and Ram for a spirited rendition of an original composition. Another new and original composition is a duet (with Alex Godinez), “Christmas Love” and a heart-warming song for the hopeful, “Maligaya Sana ang Pasko.”
