Bad joke

Author: Bong De Leon
Column: Check It Out

Boy Abunda was apparently hurt with the joke (snide remark?) about him by Vicky Belo on "Showbiz Central" last Sunday. "If you want to look like Boy Abunda, go to Calayan. If you want to look like Dingdong Dantes, go to Belo. "

That was a joke, alright. But if we were in Boy's shoes, we would be hurt naturally. What touched us more about what Boy said was the fact that even his mother called up from Samar to ask him: Anak, may nagawa ka bang masama kay Vicki Belo? It was a mom concerned about his son. We remember our own mother. Boy even considered Vicki a good friend. If it was really a joke, it was a bad one.

Maybe, it was like saying, if you want to look like Fanny Serrano, go to Fanny Serrano. That's what we hear whenever friends see movie stars whose makeup were done by Fanny. Lorna T would look like Zsa Zsa Padilla, and vice versa, and even Charlene Gonzales would look like the others. We remember Fanny because he is on the top post of PICA which will have a huge three-day event at the SMX Convention Center starting on February 26. There will be a Touch of Excellence Awards , health, wellness expo and seminar workshop on beauty for neophyte beauticians. We just hope that his guests (on the list) like Lorna Tolentino, Charlene Gonzales, KC Concepcion, and Ogie Alcasid don't come looking like very much each other.

HOW POLITICS AND SHOWBIZ MIX
ENVIRONMNENT Secretary Lito Atienza hosted lunch for some members of the entertainment press who have been supporting him since he was mayor of Manila. We all know that the former mayor has a heart close to showbusiness. He was once a part of the Bayanihan Dance Company, but his heart and mind proved to be more useful as public servant.

That mix is quite apparent in his son, Kim who's better known as Kuya Kim on TV doing the weather report and promoting love for nature through his Matanglawin show. Sec. Atienza is proud that his son has found his real calling, far from politics. "Kung hindi ko naipakita sa kanila ang pagmamahal sa natural resources bilang mga anak, siguro wala akong Kim na ganyan kadeboto sa kanyang ginagawa ngayon," he says.

He admits that at one point, he really tried to persuade Kim to try politics, but now that he is happy, he knows that he found what life really means to him.

Meanwhile, his show Maynila on GMA7 continues but since he now heads the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), he has decided to use the show to promote environmental protection. "Still, we come up with stories that are worth-watching," he said.

Some have noticed that most of their episodes are not shot in Manila anymore, but he maintains that politics has nothing to do with it. "I don't want to talk about Mayor Lim, or politics in Manila at the moment," he says.

"Even if some people are prodding me to react when a billboard of Kim was taken down in Manila. Baka raw nai-insecure lang. Ewan ko, pero kung politics 'yun, hindi naman dapat. Kim is not in politics. He is in the media. "

Meanwhile, he's planning to talk to some celebrities to help him promote environmental protection. "Gusto ko sana, yung may mga sariling advocacy na may kinalaman sa pangangalaga sa kalikasan," he says.

We suggested the names of Richard Gutierrez (who's a Greenpeace member), Chin Chin Gutierrez, Yasmien Kurdi (for PETA) and Roy Alvarez.

MADAM WHO?

WACKY hosts Ariel and Maverick are in Gotesco Mall to meet Madam (of Bilib Ka Ba Nights presents Masquerade) hopefully to know one another better. Will they finally meet and see who the real Madam is? Meanwhile, be amazed by the four seasons tree, basketball shadow, giant Polaroid camera and human grapes in the show.

Bilib Ka Ba Nights with Ariel and Maverick airs in GMA 7 Telebabad.
TWO HOURS NOT ENOUGH

Rhian Ramos, Kevin Santos and birthday girl Lovi Poe continue their appearances in the very exciting and funny episodes in Bubble Gang this Friday. Of course, there will be new sketches and TV commercial spoofs by Ogie Alcasid and Michael V plus Boy 2 Quizon, Wendell Ramos and Antonio Aquitania.

The Angelina character continues to amuse viewers, confused on whether they will hug or spank her. In any case, Ogie does it with devilish fun. The show is also never without the sexy stars male viewers love to see in a late show. Two hours of fun in "Bubble Gang" seem not enough.
