| Baler gets an A![]() Author: Ethel Ramos Joross Gamboa, under no circumstance, will make any comment about the controversial break-up between his former girlfriend, Roxanne Guinoo and Jake Cuenca. The altercation supposedly became physical, with Roxanne getting bruises. This was while Jake and Roxanne were with the cast of "ASAP Live" in Guam. Joross knows Roxanne, as they were sweethearts for nearly two years, but he hardly knows Jake. Did he talk with Roxanne when he heard about what allegedly happened? "Kung nag-uusap man kami ni Roxanne ngayon, hanggang kumustahan na lang. Busy din kasi kami pareho," said Joross. Both he and Roxanne have entries in this years Metro Manila Film Festival and they are both in the thick of promotion. Joross is in the cast of "One Night Only," which also stars Ricky Davao, Diana Zubiri, Katrina Halili, Valerie Concepcion, Alessandra de Rossi, Jennylyn Mercado and Paolo Contis. Roxanne is one of the stars of "Shake Rattle & Roll 10," under Regal Entertainment. By the way, Joross has confessed to having a girlfriend who is not from showbiz. *** Roxanne said she will as usual be spending Christmas and, perhaps, the New Year, too, in their house in Cavite. The youngest of four girls, she is the niña bonita of the family. "My dad (who works for an airline company in the Middle East) makes it a point to always be home for Christmas. Kaya parang reunion na rin namin ito," said Roxanne, who admits that she seldom goes home to Cavite as she now has her own unit in a plush condominium near ABS-CBN. When Roxanne was just starting her showbiz career about four years ago, she decided to buy a house in Quezon City with her earnings. She stayed there with her whole family. But her mom decided to go back to Cavite with her other sisters. They are now having the house in Quezon City rented as it is too big for Roxanne. In "Shake, Rattle & Roll," Roxanne is paired with JC de Vera, who is allegedly courting her. Roxanne denies this. *** As we were writing this column, we received word from June Rufino, executive producer of the Viva Films movie "Baler," that it got an "A" rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board. "Baler" is likewise being endorsed by the DepEd and NCAA. Viva Films, which co-produced Baler with Bida Foundation, shelled close to P100 million to produce the movie. "Baler, Im proud to say, is destined to become a landmark in Philippine Cinema," said Direk Mark, "Those who will watch it will talk about the movie for years. "I promise you that." "Baler" chronicles the events in what is known as "The Siege of Baler" during the Spanish Occupation when a 57-man Rifle Battalion of the Spanish military clashed with Filipino forces. It is against this backdrop that the beautiful love story of Feliza, a beautiful Filipina, and Celso Resurrecion, a half-Spanish/half Filipino soldier, unfolds. Feliza is played by Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales is Celso. Phillip Salvador portrays Felizas father, who is against their relationship. Also in the cast of "Baler" are Michael de Mesa, Joel Torre, Rio Locsin, Ryan Eigenmann, Carlo Aquino, Leo Martinez, Bernard Palanca, Nikki Bacolod, Mark Bautista and Baron Geisler, who plays Capt.
