Baron Geisler on his career: 'I may be doing something right'

Author: Bernie Franco

Amidst a very turbulent year, controversial actor Baron Geisler considers 2008 as a blessing. Indeed, 2008 has been good to Baron, despite the issues that have come his way. "It was a wild journey, wild but napaka-succesful po ng aking taon," the actor began. "Marami po akong natutunan. Marami po akong mas nakilala, mas nakilala ko po ang sarili ko. Naging malapit ako sa Diyos. I may be doing something really good to deserve all of these." Since he joined Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 in 2007, Baron has been consistently in the headlines. He was criticized for his behavior in the PBB house and a few months after, a harassment case was filed against him by Patrizia Martinez, daughter of his friend and PBB housemate Yayo Aguila. In the middle of the court battle, he earned his first Best Actor award for the indie film Jay and even went to the Venice Film Fest where the movie became a finalist. However, he was hounded by yet another issue while he was abroad - it was rumored that he was imprisoned in Italy because of his wild behavior at a party. Baron denied all accusations and emphasized that he is a changed man, or at least doing his best to be one. "I just want to think of the future, I don't wanna go back to the past. Parang binaon ko na sa lupa 'yon. Pero natutunan kong mas dumistansya nang konti (sa mga intriga), at irespeto ang sarili. Baron is now part of primetime teleserye Eva Fonda, playing the role of Val, a neurotic guy who got obsessed with a barrio lass, Eva (Cristine Reyes). The actor previously played the role of the young John Regala, the main villain in afternoon soap Pieta and a rapist on the Maui Taylor starrer Torotot. With the antagonistic roles he is portraying and with the controversies he is involved with, many people can't help but ask if there is a connection between his personal attitude to the characters he plays on screen. The actor explained that his bad guy roles do not reflect who he is in real life. Baron added that he has taken on a lot of different roles in his career and hopefully people will realize his versatility as an actor. "Kasi isipin mo sa Eva bad boy, sa Baler (upcoming movie), prestigious naman because I speak in Spanish. During the recent press launch of Eva Fonda, some members of the press asked if he did not take advantage of Cristine during their rape scene in the teleserye. The program's directors and head writer were quick to say though that Baron was very professional and he knew his limitations. The actor pointed out that his character Val in Eva is far different from his real personality. "Ibang-iba kasi si Val. Unang-una may tama siya sa utak, eh. Kasi na-obssess siya kay Eva. Kung anu-ano ang pinaggagagawa niya. Nang-rape siya, ibang-iba siya kay Baron. Yung character na 'yon, walang puso, ako naman may puso," Baron explained.
