No doubt, baby boy is Patrick’s son

It’s out! Jennylyn Mercado’s baby boy Jazz has Patrick Garcia’s eyes, nose and mestizo features, according to a source who saw the boy up close. No doubt, he’s the child’s biological father, and there’s to need for a DNA testing. Patrick was alienated from Jennylyn when the rumor about Mark Herras being the baby’s father, because of Mark’s alleged late-night secret visits to Jennylyn when she and Patrick were very much boyfriend-girlfriend, came out. Such talk caused the meltdown of their relationship, leading Patrick to stay away from the pregnant Jennylyn and even when she gave birth to his son. Patrick has not seen his son since his alleged return from the US because Jennylyn would not allow it. For sure, she does not consider Patrick a good father for failing to support her during her pregnancy and delivery.

The Manila International Salsa Festival

The Manila International Salsa Festival will be held at One Esplanade, Mall of Asia, on Nov. 15 and 16. Salsa, a hit in the 1970s, is being discovered anew by the world. Alvin Anson, event host and salsa enthusiast, says, “If you can walk, you can salsa.” A step forward and a step backward, and that’s it. So global citizens from 14 to 70 years old are raving about it. Mico Montelibano, a salsa instructor, says: “It’s a street dance. You don’t have to worry that you’re technically correct.”

Salsa Manila business manager Peter Chu adds that “salzeros” are very friendly. You don’t need to bring a partner — you can get one on the event itself. A welcome party for delegates from the USA, Europe, Hong Kong, China, Australia and the UAE will be held at Mezze, Greenbelt, on Nov. 14. Whether you’re looking for a sexy workout or physical therapy, maybe even anger management or sexual repression, salsa is the thing.

Sponsors are Gold’s Gym, Chowking, David’s Salon, Boracay Grand Vista Resort and Spa, South East Asian Airlines, Traders Hotel Manila, Teriyaki Boy, Mang Inasal, 103.5 Max FM, 92.3 FM, 99.5 RT, DWWW-774 AM Stereo, Energyfm 91.5, Global Destiny, Jam 88.3, Magic 89.9, Wave 89.1, ClickTheCity.com, FlashManila.com, and www.Yehey.com.

Another awakening album from Bamboo

Bamboo’s new 10-track, all-original album from EMI Music Phil., Tomorrow Becomes Yesterday, is now available. While some acts have sacrificed poetic lyrics for their 15 minutes of fame, Bamboo has stayed true to its music from the start — kick-ass music with in-your-face verses. He has stirred every facet of our society with “Noypi,” “Hallelujah,” and “Tatsulok.” Even though some religious groups misunderstand their form of expression, Bamboo Manalac says that they keep their songs open for interpretation. He even encourages violent reactions to be made known to them via www.bamboo.com.ph. Ira Cruz, on guitars, came up the stage on crutches and played while seated on a chair. Buzzstation was told by Ira that a car accident three weeks ago was responsible, but three weeks more and he’ll be as good as new. Bending with the wind, just like a bamboo. With the driving pulse of Nathan Azarcon’s bass and Vic Mercado’s straightforward improvisation on drums, Tomorrow Becomes Yesterday is sure to become another hot seller.

Jennylyn’s assistant slapped

with 19 cases of qualified theft

Jennylyn Mercado filed 19 cases of falsification of commercial documents against her former assistant Rowena “Mel” Pulmano at the Quezon City court yesterday at 6 p.m. As Jennylyn’s assistant, Mel took care of paying her bills and other obligations such as her car and housing loans. She also took care of her banking matters such as deposits, withdrawals and requests for checkbooks. She gave her the authority to receive any and all papers, documents, checks, statements and other papers related to her current account number 160-001463-2. On Oct. 7, Jennylyn discovered some of her checks which cleared contained her forged signature. After verification with the UCPB, she was informed that a total of 10 checkbooks were released to Mel from February to July 2008. Three of the checks with the amounts of P60,000, P20,000 and P20,000 were issued to Mel. She never issued those checks. As of Oct. 7, her current account number had a remaining balance of only P2,094.42. Since her current account was already depleted, checks issued in her name were already dishonored.

According to Marietta Galang, the mother of Valerie Galang a.k.a. Valerie Concepcion, sometime in the last week of Aug. 2008, Mel approached her and asked for a loan of P100,000, allegedly on Jennylyn’s behalf. When Mrs. Galang referred the matter to her daughter Valerie, the latter declared that Jennylyn should call her first. But Mel insisted that Jennylyn was embarrassed for asking said loan and could not call her. So, Mrs. Galang gave Mel a loan of P30,000, and Mel gave her UCPB check 362190, containing Jennylyn’s forged signature. The check, upon presentment, was not honored. When Mrs. Galang verified with Jennylyn as to whether or not she asked Mel to secure the loan on her behalf, she was so surprised as to find out that Jennylyn never gave Mel such instruction.

Inquiries Jennylyn made revealed that Mel was able to secure loans from the payees mentioned in the falsified checks by convincing them that it was Jennylyn who wanted to secure the loan, as she needed the money for medical expenses related to her pregnancy and childbirth. Mel then issued to said individuals the checks, as payment of the loans she secured, for which Jennylyn never gave her authority. Jennylyn was informed by her lawyers, Alonso and Associates, that, with respect to the 19 cleared checks, Mel’s actions make her punishable for the complex crime of qualified theft through falsification of commercial documents. There being probable cause that 19 counts of the complex crime of qualified theft through falsification of commercial documents and eight counts of falsification of commercial documents were committed by Mel, information was filed in the appropriate court to charge and try her for said crimes.

Stella Ignacio’s jazz unaffected

by abuse as a child

Jazz singer Stella Ignacio talks so fast not even a tape recorder cannot keep up with her. She’s not a jazz singer; she is jazz personified. Her voice is a jazz instrument. She’s so wide-eyed happy she can’t hide it. You will never get a hint that her dad passed away three years ago. Her musician ex-boyfriend left her when she wouldn’t go to the USA with him because she didn’t want to leave her mom by herself. She was abused by her caretaker as a child. This was exactly the reason she joined “Echoes of Dreams,” a performing arts production by Jerome Vinarao for abused children. Stella will be joined by French pianist David Starck, along with poetry readers Kooky Tuason, Blackheart and Raul Roco, Jr., the Christian band Benjamin, and Camille Dela Rosa, the youngest Filipina painter (turned singer) who has done 15 solo exhibits. The artistic showcase that is “Echoes of Dreams” will be shown in Teatrino, Promenade Mall, Greenhills, on Nov. 7.
