Belo’s ex-bf in hospital after suicide attempt?

Richard Gutierrez and KC Concepcion will be each other’s Valentine date. And why not? They have to be together promoting their Valentine film, "Save the Best for Last." Now that Joey Reyes has resigned, Joel Lamangan takes over as the film’s director and they already had their pictorial last Wednesday. The first shooting day is scheduled for today. From the scenes that will be shot, they will do a teaser trailer for the movie that will be shown with other entries in the Metro Manila Filmfest.

Richard and KC will be taking a break during the Christmas holidays then shoot again almost everyday after the New Year to make sure the movie will be finished for its Valentine’s Day playdate. "Kaya we’ll be seeing each other again almost everyday the whole month of January," says Richard. "January 6, we’ll go to a beautiful resort in Palawan where we’ll shoot part of the movie. I’m glad to be reunited with Direk Joel Lamangan who directed me before in ‘Mano Po 2,’ the movie kung saan first napansin ang acting ko."

Richard has a great track record as the "Valentine King," with his past Valentine’s flicks all bonafide blockbusters like "Let the Love Begin," "I Will Always Love You," "The Promise" and "My Best Friend’s Girl Friend." "Tiyak kong tatangkilikin uli ng tao itong ‘Save the Best for Last’ dahil si KC ang kapareha ko this time," he adds.

KC is optimistic that their second screen outing will be even more successful than the first one. "Siempre, kasi teritoryo ni Richardang Valentine as most girls think he is their Valentine date kapag pinapanood ang movie niya on the day of hearts," she says.

Is it true they had a falling out when Richard was linked to Jewel Mische?

"Not really, kasi we’re open and honest with each other. Very transparent kami sa isa’t isa kaya I know what’s going on. Lately nga lang, hindi kami masyadong nagkikita dahil magkaiba ang worknamin and we both went abroad. But now we’re doing a movie together, magiging madalas na naman ang aming pagsasama."

But how come there’s a rumor she’s getting so close to Jericho Rosales these days?

"Only because we’re paired in ‘Katy the Musical.’ Alam n’yo naman sa showbiz, kapag pinareha ka sa iba, ili-link na agad kayo. But I really enjoy doing the show kasi I miss theater, where I started when I did plays like ‘The Little Mermaid’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast.’Kaya kahit nasa movies and TV na ako, gusto ko pa rin itong binabalikan."

Diana Zubiri continues to reap a lot of praise for her sensible answers in the presscon of "One Night Only" and for coming out fully dressed like a real movie star and not like some of her co-stars who look like they just woke up and are on their way to the market. Diana is very candid even in replying to personal questions, like when someone asked if she’s really the actress shown in a tabloid kissing a non-showbiz guy.

"Ako nga ‘yung nasa pictures printed sa tabloids," she says. "The guy is my boyfriend and more than a year na kami. Hindi ko naman siya itinatago at madalas ko ngang kasama sa Barrakz (the bar on Morato Ave. which she partly owns). No, I didn’t get mad when I saw the photos. Kasi hindi rin naman nagalit ang boyfriend ko. Kaya lang, he’s so thin then at ang taba naman ng braso ko. So sabi niya, ‘Ano ba ‘yan? Sa lahat ng pictures, ito pang nakuha? Ang pangit ko naman dito.’ Kasi ni hindi siya nakapag-shave that time. It’s really a series of picturesna nakunan sa isang party. First time nangyari ‘yun sa kanya and, at least, he took it lightly na dapat lang naman dahil kung nag-inarte siya, tatadyakan ko siya, no?" And she laughs.

She’d rather not reveal the name of her boyfriend.

"He’s a private person kaya huwag na lang. He’s a businessman. At mabait siya and sweet kaya magkasundo kami. He’s 33 and 23 naman ako, pero okay lang ang age gap namin kasi he’s more understanding. Hindi niya pinakikialaman ang decisions ko, lalo na pagdating sa trabaho. He introduces me to his friends and I can feel proud siya sa’kin. Hindi ako itinatago. He has even introduced me to his parents. He said ready na siya to settle down. E, ako, hindi pa dahilenjoy pa ako sa career ko. So ako na lang ang hinihintay niya kung kailan ako magiging ready. I told him in two years, but we never can tell, ‘di ba? Kasi dinala niya ko sa Vigan and I fell in love with the place na puro lumang bahay. Nagsimba kami sa church nila at sabi ko sa kanya, sana dito tayo ikasal. Dream lang naman ‘yun."

Diana is happy that she’s in two filmfest entries. "Nakakatuwa nga kasi first time kong mapasali sa Metro filmfest, tapos dalawa agad ang entries. Comedy ang ‘One Night Only’ where I play a simple girl who surrenders her virginity in a motel not knowing two-timer ang boyfriend niya. Horror-comedy naman ang episode namin ni Marian Rivera, ‘Nieves,’ in ‘Shake Rattle & Roll X’."

Hayden Kho, the singing doctor who joined "Celebrity Duets" then went into acting in soaps like "Marimar" and "Kim Sam Soon," was taken to the Makati Medical Center recently, allegedly because he tried to kill himself after his girlfriend, Dr. Vicky Belo, broke up with him.

His camp denied this and said he just suffered from over-fatigue since right after he came home from a vacation in the US with Dr. Vicky, he went straight to work and did surgery on some patients until 11 p.m., so he really got so exhausted and collapsed.

But someone close to the Belos say it is obvious Dr. Vicky’s daughter, Crystalle Henares, is very happy these days now that her mom has called it quits with Hayden. She’s always been against the relationship as she felt Hayden is just taking advantage of her mom, something which Hayden has repeatedly denied. It’s said their rift started while they we’re on holiday in the US where they watched the Pacquiao fight. Dr. Vicki reportedly got some damning evidence that Hayden indeed had a fling with Katrina Halili, a Belo model with whom Hayden appears naked in their print ad. (Wonder what Katrina has to say about this?)

Our source said Dr. Vicky has vowed she’ll just concentrate on her beauty businesses this time and will forget about love. Before this, she also got burned with another guy whom she also trusted so much.

Do you know that Cesar Montano and the Pinoy front man now of the band Journey, Arnel Pineda, are very good friends.

"Matagal na kaming magkaibigan," says Arnel. "Noon pa mang hindi pa ko kilala at struggling singer pa lang ako. I was shy then, but music helped us to become good friends."

"I’m really very proud of Arnel," says Cesar. "Ang layo na ng narating niya. Now that he is an international star, we’re talking about the possibility of having our own concert together someday, kapag bakasyon siya from Journey. Ibang klase naman talaga kasi ang quality ng boses niya. World class!"

What can Arnel say about this?

"It will definitely be a big honor for me to work with a great artist like him. Sana nga matuloy."

Arnel is very happy that diehard Journey fans accepted him with open arms as the band’s new vocalist. "Kasi kung hindi naman nila ako tinanggap, walang mangyayari sa pagpunta ko sa States."

Cesar would have invited Arnel to join him in "The Singing Bee" but Arnel is quite busy. Tomorrow, Saturday, Cesar’s guests in "The Singing Bee" are the actors who play important roles in "Baler": Mark Bautista, Ryan Eigenmann and Bernard Palanca. "It’s going to be a lot of fun," he says. "Lahat sila, puro mahusay kumanta, pero natatandaan kaya nila lahat ng lyrics sa mga kantang ibibigay namin sa kanila. That, you gotta find out."

Early this, week Cesar and his wife Sunshine Cruz were the special guest contestants of Kris Aquino in "Kapamilya Deal or No Deal" and they had a great time in the show.

Comedienne Kitkat competes again in "The Singing Bee" this Sunday night after her ex-boyfriend allegedly stole her savings. The first time she joined, she won P80,000 and that money was taken by her ex as well. "I have filed a case against him. I really want him to be punished," she says.

Kitkat is back to her usual perky self although she says she’ll probably have a lonely Christmas. "I’ll just work hard kahit Pasko as I still need to pay the debts na iniwan niya sa’kin."

She faces tough competition in "Singing Bee" as Pooh, who won P2 million in "1 Vs. 100," will be playing too along with Janna Dominguez, an eliminated participante in "Pinoy Fear Factor." Janna says that presence of mind will be the key in the game. "Sometimes you know the song but when you panic, you forget about the lyrics," she adds.

The sexy 18-year-old Janna now appears in "Eva Fonda," where she plays a maid who likes her employer’s son Val, played by Baron Geisler.

When asked to comment about Baron’s possible court case, Janna expressed concern. "Baron is like my mentor in acting. He’s also a family friend. I’m really sad to learn that the issue is still not over. He will always have my support."

Meanwhile, Pooh is determined to win again in another ABS-CBN game show so he can start another school project for the kids in his hometown in Samar. Also competing this Sunday are fellow comics Bayani Agbayani, Vice Ganda and Long Mejia. Jiro Manio is one of the Star Magic talents with an entry in the Metro filmfest, "Ang Tanging Ina Ninyong Lahat." He reprises his role as Ai Ai de las Alas’ intelligent son. The last time we talked to him, Jiro was still going steady with his girlfriend who’s three years older than him. He now says that they’ve broken up due to some differences, including the disparity in their ages.

"Career na lang muna ako and my studies dahil magtatapos na ko ng high school," he says. "All I can say is marami akong natutuhan sa naging relationship namin at tama na muna ‘yun kaya ayoko munang manligaw."

He’s glad to be back doing a mainstream movie. "Last year kasi, puro indie films ang ginawa ko like ‘Tambolista’ na nagingkiller ako, ‘Tirador’ na snatcher naman ako, at ‘Foster Child’ na anak ako ni Cherry Pie Picache. At least, na-nominate pa rin ako in those movies," says Jiro, who already won a lot of acting awards for "Magnifico" when he was 10 years old.

Dr. Manny Calayan hosted a party for the press last Wednesday at Alba’s. He presented his newest endorser, Ai Ai de las Alas, who’ll have a grand launch early 2009. Dr. Manny just returned from the US but the next day, Thursday, he left again for Europe with his wife Dr. Pie and their three daughters. "It’s our annual Christmas break and they requested me to take them to Europe this time," he says. "Sabi ko nga, ang lamig-lamig doon dahil winter, but they want to experience daw a white Christmas so pinagbigyan ko lang ang wish nila."

How are he and Annabelle Rama? "We’re okay. We text each other lagi. ‘Yung issue na sinabi ko raw when her name was mentioned na ‘Sino yun,’ pinalalaki lang ng ibang tao na gusto kaming pag-awayin. But we remain friends."
