Bringing wealth into your life

Feng shui is ancient Chinese practice that helps attract positive energy. Through the years, people have used feng shui in many areas of their lives, including attracting and maintaining wealth.

The first step in attracting wealth, says feng shui consultant to the stars Joy Lim, is getting rid of clutter.

Lim spoke about attracting wealth at a charity bazaar organized by TinTin Bersola-Babao at the World Trade Center.

“Having a home or office that’s free of clutter attracts positive energy,” says Lim.

She advises those who believe in feng shui to have flowing water in the home or office in the form of a water fountain.

“Water is a natural conduit of energy since its fluidness helps energy flow. The never-ending sound of the water circulating and flowing with the abundance of wealth that is in your life,” adds Lim.

This year, it’s all about activating one’s wealth luck.

“Experts believe that we haven’t seen the worst of the crisis,” says Lim. “Remember that feng shui is a formula on how to live your best life and how to maximize its potentials. You have to look for your luck, work hard, and pray.”

To activate the wealth luck, find the southeast of the houses where the wood element is dominant and place a waterfall there. In the southwest, place a big red heart.

Lim says “knowing where to put and arrange things” is the key to good feng shui. Buddhas, for instance, should be placed diagonally across from the places of power and honor. A pig in the northwest of the house signifies good fortune. Taping three fortune coins on the telephone will attract more sales while the computers must be placed in the southeast to attract more business.

“If you have a toilet in the southeast, paint it white to counteract bad luck,” she adds.

In feng shui, a toilet will flush one's wealth luck.

“Feng shui is about common sense,” says Lim. “You have to look for your luck. You have to be aware of opportunities and dangers that come your way. Waiting for good luck to go your way is not something that is encouraged in feng shui.”

Lim advises feng shui practitioners to look for the northwest of the living room and place a golden Buddha in the center. For the northeast, it is good to place a fireball.

“Avoid red in this area and instead use green and gold. Also, avoid the north. It’s bad for everyone this year,” she says.

Bad directions to face for 2009 are the northeast, north, and east. Lim says if you are renovating, do not start in the northeast due to the presence of the Grand Duke, the east due to the Thee Killings and the north due to the Five Killings.

Businesses associated with metal and earth in the cycle of elements will be productive this year. These are those related to metal include engineering, computers, jewelry, and cars. Those related to earth include construction property development, real estate, insurance, mining, and chemicals.

But more than good luck, Lim stresses that feng shui is about faith and good intentions.

“If you are lucky, don’t flaunt or abuse it. Always be grateful for what you have and do not forget to pray every day,” she adds. “Take care of whatever wealth comes your way.”

Lim’s other tips for attracting wealth include:

• Put plants on the southeast of the house. A money cat waterfall will also help.

• Light at least three sticks of sandalwood incense during the new moon.

• Wear a citrine bracelet.

• Wear a jade lettuce bracelet if your are starting a new business.

• Put something purple in the southeast or hang a wishing crystal ball.

• Wear a camel bracelet or lucky charm if you are suffering from financial difficulties.

• Put nine frogs in the living room.
