Cesar Montano as Renaissance Man

Author: Nestor Cuartero
Column: MovieGoer

JUST A THOUGHT: A man who gives his children industry provides them better than by giving them a fortune.

HEARD: In two weeks' time, the musical theater workshop of Gantimpala Theater shall commence at the company's home in Rizal Park. Classes will run from April 13 to May 21 under the supervision of Roeder Camanag and Onyl Torres. Gantimpala notes that some of its busier graduates have been making inroads in mainstream showbiz, the likes of Kakai Bautista, Valerie Tan, Joel Molina, Perry Escano.

HEARD: The director of 'Pasang Krus', the Holy Week-inspired indie film starring Rosanna Roces tackling the sacrifices of a mother for her children, is Neal 'Buboy' Tan, and not Arvin Bustos, as we wrote in this column last week. Arvin is the film's director of photography.

BY THE WAY...

Going through an old issue of Maxim magazine, we came across a quotable quote from Cesar Montano. Asked about the weirdest thing about him, the actor replied: 'I guess the weirdest thing about me is that I do a lot of things. I do sports, I box, I bike, basketball, tennis, swimming, scuba-diving, even golf, I act, I write scripts, I direct, I'm a farmer, I have a farm in Zambales and Bulacan...ako ang naghukay at nagtanim. I fish, I play chess, I paint, I sing...' Another magazine calls Cesar a Renaissance Man.

Speaking of farming, Cassandra Ponti tends to the family's plantation in Davao on days when she's not acting or performing with the all-girl group, Koolchx. Cass, who was among those feted by Star Magic for its March-born artists during a dinner last week, recently started her own fruit business in her hometown. When not scouring fruit flies in mangoes and worms in those caimitos, the sexy actress is preparing for a shoot with Dolphy in an ABS-CBN series.

Will George & Cecil bring back the sitcom as a popular program format on TV? ABS-CBN is testing the waters, banking on Judy Ann Santos, together with future husband, Ryan A-goncillo, in this new comedy series. The new show premieres in April and can be seen every Sunday night. TV sitcom used to be a popular TV format for decades. Its popularity was eclipsed and eventually taken over by teleseryes, dislodging comic stars in favor of dramatic ones.
