| | Charlene back to school... in the USAuthor: Dave Dizon Column: Entertainment Curtain-raisers: • There's no stopping a popular couple from having their marriage annulled. The husband arrived from the US a few days ago to finalize the requirements. Their petition for divorce has been pending at a US court. The couple are parting as friends not only because they have a beautiful daughter but because, that's it, they are really friends. After all, there's no "third party" in the separation; their career paths have just taken opposite directions. • So far, here are the showbiz folks said to be running in the 2010 elections: Vice Pres. Noli "Kabayan" de Castro (for President?); Senators Bong Revilla and Jinggoy Estrada for re-election; Edu Manzano for Senator; Cesar Montano for Governor of Bohol; Chito Roño (for Congressman of Western Samar?); Boy Abunda(!?!) for mayor (daw!) of Borongan, Eastern Samar; Dingdong Avanzado (for Vice Gov. of Laguna?); Quezon City Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista for Mayor; Joey Marquez (again for Mayor of Parañaque City?); Jigo Garcia and Alfred Vargas for councilors in Quezon City. • Followers of the ABS-CBN late-night showbiz-oriented news program Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN) are asking why Kris Aquino, who co-hosts the show with Boy Abunda, seems to be doing a solo "fashion show" in-between her delivery of news. I'm clueless. Maybe Kris wants to showcase her branded clothes? Maybe. * * * Anytime next week, Charlene Gonzalez will be attending classes at the Harvard Business School - yes, in the US! - where she's taking up a Business Management Entrepreneurship course. "It's a month-long course," said Charlene who left Friday after she and husband Aga Muhlach attended the piano recital of their daughter Atasha (twin sister of Andres). "I will be back before May 1 in time for my birthday and to bring Atasha to the Brent International School. It will be her first day in school." (Andres studies at the International School.) Charlene holds a B.S. Psychology degree from UST. She initially planned to pursue a medical course until showbiz ate up most of her time. She also finished a one-on-one Mentorship Program in Business Management and Entrepreneurship at the Asian Institute of Management. At Harvard, she'll be following a rigid schedule. Classes start promptly at 7 a.m. every day. Charlene won't be home until 10 p.m. "It's a good thing that I'm staying at a dorm nearby." Studying in the US is not new to Charlene who finished elementary grades and high school at the Bishop Amat in California. "Aga has been encouraging me to go back to school. Like me, he believes that learning is a never-ending process. His day is never complete without reading a newspaper, magazine or a book." Katrina: There's life after Hayden Win some, lose some. Only a few weeks after her "harrowing" experience with the controversial couple - Dr. Vicki Belo and Dr. Hayden Kho, who else? - Katrina Halili has picked up the pieces of her nearly-broken life and started moving on...without looking back! She has gained eight pounds which she can easily lose because, according to Katrina, "mabilis ang metabolism ko." She has also been working out, especially prior to her launch as Bench Body's newest endorser. She looks sexy and seductive in the Bench Body "Single & Hot" billboards, doesn't she? She has completely "re-invented" herself. Part of her "moving on" was breaking up with boyfriend Kris Lawrence (who is said to be helplessly broken-hearted), transferring to a new house which she's renting-to-own and having a new hairstyle. What's more, irony of ironies, she was hired as the newest endorser of Flawless which happens to be the sister company of The Belo Medical Clinic. Flawless is managed by Joey Santos, the doktora's "ex" who co-owns the company. Katrina should be singing "ako ang nasawi, ako ang nagwagi." More than the doktora, she's the bigger victim in the Vicki-Hayden brouhaha. Although they deny it, the couple are together again. Commented a showbiz-observer, "Magbabalikan din pala, nandamay pa ng ibang tao." Correct! Besides Katrina, others who fell victims were Rufa Mae Quinto and a beauty queen. Briefly noted • Here for a visit is Fil-Am actress Jelynn Rodriguez who has worked with various Hollywood stars including James Caan, Josh Duhamel, Christina Applegate and Molly Sims in such TV series as Las Vegas and Samantha Who? Jelynn also plays the lead role (as a Filipino-Japanese-American woman) in the new original web series Acts of Love & Sex (log on to www.AOLS.tv ). She is also a TV host. Jelynn said she's "proudly Bicolana and Cebuana," born and raised in San Diego, California, by parents who are both Filipino. Besides working hard to represent Filipinos in Hollywood, Jelynn continues to do philanthropy work to raise money and awareness for the children at the HOPE Worldwide Village in Baseco and Laguna. • Daniel Razon of UNTV (described as The Public Service Channel, "Serving the people is serving God") has been at the helm of a medical mission which offers to the needy services like X-ray, ECG (Electrocardiogram), blood chemistry, etc. "We also facilitate free surgery for patients if needed and we give continuous medication," said Daniel who hosts the Good Morning, Kuya (4:45 a.m. to 9 a.m., Monday thru Friday). Tomorrow, April 5, Daniel's medical-mission group will service journalists from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the UNTV Studio at the Philamlife Homes along EDSA (across Trinoma). • Congratulations to Travis Kraft whose cooking show Salo-Salo was included in the 1st Annual Life Film Festival held last March 27 in L.A. The Americans behind the filmfest liked Travis' show because it is in Tagalog and celebrates Filipino food and culture.
