AFTER Masahista at Locarno, can we expect another winner in Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros at the Montreal World Film Festival (Aug. 26 to Sept. 5)?

The Auraeus Solito movie was initially shown there last Saturday (August 27, 7:30 p.m. at Parisien 3). The second, Sunday (August 28).

Heres an earlier update from foreign coordinator Ferdinand Lapuz who with direk Auraeus and producer Raymond Lee was there at Montreal:

"Maxi was screened last night, the only material competing (with 14 others) in video format. The crowd, which included Canadian winner who shared the Locarno top plum with Masahista, accompanied by his father, watched the screening.

"The entire hall as the movie was being screened was in complete silence. At the end, a rousing cheer, warm applause."

Another message from Ferdie Lapuz yesterday:

"The reception of Maximo Oliveros during its second screening is more overwhelming than the first one last Saturday. It had more people which is unusual. I saw if for the 2nd time on the wide screen. Very clear copy.

"I think it has a strong possibility of winning any of the three Zenith awards. Gut feeling ko lang iyon. Sa Sept. 5 pa ang awards night."

AUGUST GIRL: Rarely do we get two or three hit singles from a music album these days. But Search for a Star champion Rachelle Ann Go surprised even her record producers with a succession of four hit singles from her debut album.

Now, she is enjoying her victory as the Peoples Choice for Favorite Female Artist at the 2005 MTV Pilipinas video Music Awards for her rendition of Love of My Life.

The event was held last August 25 (Thursday) at the Araneta Coliseum. It came as an early birthday gift for Rachelle Ann who turned 19 yesterday, August 30.

Rachelle Anns bestsellers from her self-titled debut album include Dont Cry Out Loud, (You and Me) We Wanted It All, From The Start and her latest, Here I Am Again.

Actually, Jimmy Antipordas Here I Am Again is her first R&B song, a departure from the soaring ballads that she has become famous for.

Love of My Life, a cover of a hit song by South Border Jay Durias has now joined the growing list of the young singers successive big sellers.

Rachelle Ann has just returned from a successful performing tour of the US cities and two Australian cities (Sydney, Melbourne) with the other singing champions.

Rachelle Ann has started working on her second album and is also busy with her hosting chores in ABS-CBNs Search for a Star in a Million together with Sheryn Regis, Mark Bautista and Erik Santos and of the TV variety show ASAP.

Incidentally, she was also chosen Best Female Pop Artist at the 23rd Annual Peoples Choice Awards by the National ConsumersQuality Awards.

Cherry Pie Picache, perhaps the most popular dengue victim down here, is now out of danger.

Friend and talent manager Ed Instrella tells us: "Fast recovery for Cherry Pie, thank God. From a dangerously low platelets count of 35 thousand last Saturday night, it went up to 40,000 Sunday and today, 80,000. She will be released from St. Lukes, once the count reaches 150,000 the minimum healthy count."
