Christmas on the rocks

Christmas on the rocks

Author: Ricardo F. Lo

Pasko na sinta ko

Hanap-hanap kita.

Bakit ka nagtampo?

Nilisan ako.

I hope (against hope?) that my friend couple have kissed and made up by the time this column comes out. After all, they are among showbiz's most beautiful couples, blessed with beautiful children, who have survived together all sorts of tests and trials.

Yesterday, a mutual friend told me that the actress-wife left home before (or was it on?) Christmas Day with the children and sought "refuge," as she always does when trouble crops up in their marriage, in her mother's house.

"There was an exchange of unpleasant words," said my friend, "with the wife at the receiving end. She was hurting and in tears when she left home. "

Cause of the fight?

"A 16-year-old Brazilian model," said my friend who's privy to the couple's drama of breaking up and making up, and breaking up and making up. "The husband is going crazy over the model. He should come to his senses before things really go out of hand. "

The stanza from a Christmas song (Pasko Na Sinta Ko by Gary Valenciano) aptly describes the couple's present situation which, I hope, will be ironed out before the year ends. I hope it won't be a "New Year, New Dear" 2008 for him.

I wish them a peaceful new year together -- under one roof, in one bed!

* * *

He's making a list

And checking it twice,

Gonna find out

Who's naughty or nice.

Santa Claus is coming to town.

We're two days away from Christmas and we should know who among us were naughty or nice. Did you get what was due you from Santa? That is, if you were nice.

I hope one of my favorite actresses got her "due" (whatever it might be). A new happiness, perhaps? In the arms of another man, perhaps?

There's a persistent rumor that she and her beloved are trodding a rocky path. She has denied it, of course, but the more intensely she denies it the more people believe there's truth to the rumor. Is she and her beloved only acting "civilly" now toward each other? They are seen together in public and, yes, they continue to live under one roof, although it's not clear if they still sleep in one bed. (Who would know except just the two of them -- and their child?).

But like a fire, which comes out especially if you cover it with only pieces of paper (a marriage contract is also a piece of paper, isn't it?), the truth will out, sooner or later.

Santa Dear, is my favorite actress really acting "naughty" (even if she can be, for show, "nice")?

'Uselessly' Yours

Have you heard about The Book of Useless Information (an official publication of The Useless Information Society, consisting of "thousands of things you didn't think you needed to know. .. and probably don't")?

I heard about it from Douglas Quijano who said he heard about it from Joey de Leon.

"Buy me a copy," Douglas said when he learned that I was going to the States (last month).

I did, at Borders. One for Douglas and one for me.

The book, a No. 1 New York Times Bestseller, is quite a read.
