Claudine moving to GMA?

Rhian Ramos is aware that some quarters are not exactly jubilant with her being chosen as Dingdong Dantes’ leading lady in the local adaptation of the hit Koreanovela, "Stairway to Heaven."

"So what else is new?" she says. "Di ba ayaw rin nila when I was chosen to do ‘La Lola’ but they were proven wrong kasi it did well in the ratings. At this point, I’ve already accepted that I can’t please everyone. Meron din ngang nagkakalat na tomboy ako. What I just do is to give my best in any role assigned to me para naman hindi mapahiya yung mga nagtitiwala sa kakayahan ko."

Won’t Marian Rivera get jealous when she does her romantic scenes with Dingdong?

"Ngayon pa lang, halos araw-araw kami magkasama ni Dingdong dahil sa workshops namin for our new show. But I assure her wala siyang dapat ipagselos dahil hindi ako threat sa anumang relationship meron sila. First of all, hindi ako nang-aahas, no?Trabaho lang itong pagpapareha namin ni Dingdong, nothing more. Deeper na ang level nila ni Marian sa tagal ng pinagsamahan nila. Pero siempre, hindi maiiwasan, may magli-link talaga sa amin, which is kalakaran na rito sa showbiz na nili-link ang mga artistang magkasama sa show. I’m sure Marian herself already knows that."

Whatever happened to her and JC de Vera? "Ayun, na-linkkami when we’re doing ‘La Lola.’ Tapos, nang wala na ang show, hindi na nag-prosper yung pag-link sa amin. For me, it’s a sure sign na hindi ko talaga dapat seryosohin ang love life. Unang-una, I’m still so young and maraming pa akong gustong ma-achieve sa buhay ko. And my work is really physically and emotionally draining kaya kung wala rin lang akong trabaho, I’d rather just stay home and get more sleep. When we start taping ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ tiyak na masasabak na naman ako saall-night taping kaya I’m already preparing my body for that."

Rhian is also flattered that Dingdong has nothing but good words for her. After their workshop, he said that Rhian might be young but she thinks so maturely for her age. She knows the right kind of treatment that she’ll give to her role as Jodi in "Stairway to Heaven." "I’m convinced that GMA-7 made the right decision in choosing her as my leading lady," he added.

The cast and crew of "Darna" held a special thanksgiving mass for the show’s high ratings held right on their set in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. By this time, Marian Rivera is already so very comfortable in her skimpy costume. "Kung dati, naiilang akong may tumitingin sa akin sa setkaya nagro-robe agad ako, ngayon hindi na," she says. "Sanay na kong palakad-lakad in my costume at ako pa sinasabihan nila to put on my robe."

Dingdong Dantes is very happy with the success of "Darna," which proved that Marian can go solo and is not just banking on their love team. He even visited her on the set on her birthday to congratulate her. Is it true his gift to her is a house and a lot? Does this mean that Dingdong has proposed to her?

"Ay, walang ganun, ano ba kayo? Bakit ba kayo laging nagmamadali? Wala pa nga kaming inaamin, proposal na agad."

It’s also rumored that when Dingdong also celebrated his recent birthday, her gift for him was a new Porsche sports car. Is this true?

"Bakit? Ano ko? Sugar mommy ba niya ko? Mas mayaman pa siya sa’kin, kaya bakit ako magbibigay ng ganun. I think he’d feel insulted kung bibigyan ko siya ng ganoon na kaya rin naman niyang bilhin. My gift wasn’t just a material thing. I believe kasi na ang tao, hindi lang sa materyal na bagay puede maging masaya."

What can she say about Mother Lily Monteverde hosting a party for her?

"She’s really sweet and thoughtful naman. Wala akong marereklamo kay Mother at sa Regal dahil alagang-alaga nila akoand I can really feel that they care for me a lot. Kaya naman wala akong kapaguran pag sila ang tumawag. I taped whole day sa ‘Darna’ and also whole day sa ‘Show Me Da Manny,’ then they called me to dub my lines for ‘Tarot.’ Kahit wala akong tulog, diretso ako sa Roadrunner for dubbing. At saka bilib din talaga ako sa ‘Tarot.’ It’s a good project. Ginastuan ang sets nito, locations, special effects kaya maganda at nakakatakot talaga lumabas."

"Tarot" had a successful premiere at SM Megamall last Monday and it opens today in theaters nationwide.

Soxie Topacio says 2009 is turning out be his year. His Sinek Direk entry, "Ded Na si Lolo," earned positive reviews and was the topgrosser among the six films bankrolled by Tony Tuviera. We ourselves believe that it’s one of the best two films shown this year so far. (We won’t say yet which is the other one.) It has a touching narrative and offers great performances from the entire cast. Soxie says he’s now doing its sexy sequel, "Forty Day na si Lolo." "At ang hirap-hirap niyang gawin kaysa sa ‘Ded Na si Lolo,’" he says.

On TV, he’s directing Iza Calzado in "SRO Cinemaserye Present Rowena Joy" on GMA-7 and, on TV 5, he’s now doing a new sitcom, "Moomoo and Me" with John Prats as the moomoo and child actor BJ Forbes as the Me. "Ang dami ko talagang ginagawa ngayon," he grins.

He says "Moomoo and Me," which will be shown Thursdays at 8 p.m. starting September 10, is inspired by "Casper the Ghost."

"John Prats plays a spirit who wasn’t able to cross over to the other life and now lingers on earth. Si BJ Forbes as Junjun ang nakakakita sa kanya. This is a combination of horror and comedy but we offer positive family values. Later on, it will be revealed who John’s character really is and how he died. It turns out he has a mission here on earth, which is to help children in need."

Supporting them are William Martinez and Yayo Aguila as BJ’s loving parents, Saab Magalona as BJ’s big sister with whom Moomoo falls in love, Kiddie Kwela’s Maritoni as BJ’s little sister, Paul Salas as his best friend Pogs, Celine Lim as his crush Wendy, Empoy Marquez as their houseboy Yolo Pascual, Tiya Pusit as their rich neigHBOr Donya Dionisia, Benjie Felipe as barangay captain Bruno, and IC Mendoza as Tiya Pusit’s gay househelp Precious.

At the presscon of "Show Me Da Manny," comedienne Tuesday Vargas, who plays Marian Rivera’s sidekick, confesses that she’s ready to tie the knot with her longtime boyfriend and live in partner of six years, Coy Placido, a member of the Session Road Band. Tuesday has a love child with a previous boyfriend who gets along fine with Coy. Their wedding is set on June 19 of next year in Boracay.

"It’ll be a simple one, with only close friends and relatives invited," she says. "We’ve talked about it for quite sometime, pero ngayon pa lang kami talaga nag-plan formally and set the date. He was the one who suggested dagdagan na namin ang baby namin. It’s not a formal proposal but he just asked me kung gusto ko ng pakasal and I said, sige, ganun lang. I think it’s about time naman na we settle down kasi we’re now really comfortable with each other. He’s really good to me and to my child and that’s very important for me. He’s more of a dad who’s always present to my child kaysa the biological father."

And how is it working with the Pambansang Kamao?

"Ay, natural comedian siya. Akala namin nung una ng iba pang cast members, maiilang kami sa kanya kasi kilala siya sa buong mundo. But he turned out to be koboy na koboy. Tinatanong pa niya ko kungokay ba ang pagko-comedy niya and I told him just be himselfkasi, siya lang mismo, nakakatawa na siya. And he’s not the type na mapipikon. Kahit binibiro-biro namin, tawa lang nang tawa. Sana nga, magtagal itong sitcom namin kasi he’s fun to work with."

We saw Alfred Vargas in two consecutive press launches. First, he was at the Joel Cruz Signatures launch at SM Skydome. He’s endorsing his own scent and a new deodorant that whitens the skin and doesn’t give a sticky feeling, plus an intimate spray for men in solid black, very masculine, easy to grip canister that exudes a sexy smell like a deodorant for your private parts.

The next day, he was introduced officially as an endorser of Calayan Surgicentre at Annabel’s Restaurant. His career is really doing well these days. He’s in the toprating telefantasya, "Darna," and he just got much acclaim for his performance as good-hearted young cop in "Colorum." The film, an entry in the Cinemalaya Filmfest, will be sent to the international film festivals in Tokyo, Brussels and Marrakech. "I will be joining the team of representatives that will be going to Brussels in November," he says.

Robbie Tan is also tapping him to do a movie for director Chito Rono that will filmed on location in Morocco. "Sana, matuloy," he prays.

He’s accepting assignments only until the end of the year as he has resolved to run for councilor in Quezon City. "After that, I’d be busy with the campaign," he says.

Is it true Claudine Barretto has sent feelers that she wants to transfer to GMA-7? Her last regular show with ABS-CBN was "Iisa Pa Lamang" with Gabby Concepcion and since then, she has just guested in "May Bukas Pa" and had no other assignment. Her husband Raymart Santiago fares better on GMA. After "Gagambino," he’s now in the cast of "Darna." But we heard that GMA won’t bite that easily as they’ve learned their lesson with Diether Ocampo, who also sent feelers that he wanted to join them but backed out at the last minute after ABS-CBN made a counter offer. "Ang feeling ng GMA, baka ginagamit lang sila ng ABS talents na walang ginagawa kaya nagpapapansin," says one source.

Another source says ABS-CBN cannot be blamed if they haven’t given any new assignment to Claudine up to now. It’s said she developed an attitude and became a problem on the taping then of "Iisa Pa Lamang," so much so that many staffers don’t want to work with her anymore. How true?
