Q Channel 11 is all set to start the Survivor fever anew as it presents the 18th season of the Emmy Award-winning series this February!

Survivor: Tocantins — The Brazilian Highlands is said to be one of the series’ most rugged locations ever. The only relief it offers from the harsh conditions is a river oasis known as the Rio Novo.

This season will have its castaways divided into two separate tribes from the very beginning, which will have these diverse individuals beginning their game plan and strategies based solely on their first impression of each other.

They will be left stranded in the majestic interior of Brazil for 39 days, battling scorching temperatures, torrential downpours and dangerous wildlife all in an effort to outwit, outplay and outlast one another to ultimately win as Sole Survivor.

Hosted by Emmy Award-winner Jeff Probst, Survivor: Tocantins — The Brazilian Highlands begins airing on Feb. 13 on Q Channel 11!

More shows hit the boob tube this month as the two giant local networks present their line-ups of programs.

Heading the list is SNN or Showbiz News Ngayon, which will be top-billed by no less than Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino. Yes, we see them everyday sharing their expertise in various fields, but showbiz news reporting is their forte. Their morning show will soon be replaced by another program and they move to primetime at night.

“Some people say that this might be our extension of their Sunday show, but this is an entirely different program, which will try to dig deeper into the issues and make the showbiz items more of an interesting showbiz update rather than tsismis lang. Dito mayroong mga analysis na gagawin, may mga opinyon na pupuntusan at may mga subjects na kailangang panigan kung posible man,” shared one insider who requested anonymity.

The tandem of Ruffa Gutierrez and Ai-ai de las Alas will be put to a test as they will now occupy the morning timeslot to be vacated by Boy and Kris.

Known for their comedic prowess and natural ability to endure and motivate laughter, “Masaya silang gawing team-up. Pareho naman silang homemakers na siyang isa sa mga target audience,” added the same source.

Ruffa is a natural comedian and though she is known for her fashion sense and sophistication, she has mass appeal, which Ai-ai, of course, also has.

The challenge is if their tandem can bring back the glory days of ABS-CBN’s morning programs.

As for primetime, there is a relatively new-old format in May Bukas Pa. This a soap being headlined by a new discovery named Zaijian Jaranilla, a grade schooler who passed rigid auditions for the role of Santino, an orphan who is called a miracle boy.

This inspiring story that started airing last Monday aims to give people hope in these difficult times.

Topbilled by high-caliber artists such as Dina Bonnevie, Albert Martinez, Jaime Fabregas, Precious Lara Quigaman, Lito Pimentel, Tonton Gutierrez, Rayver Cruz and Maja Salvador, this is expected to bring back the family soaps genre.

Over at GMA 7, the tandem of Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes will once more prove their bankability as they tackle new roles in Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang.

A classic adaptation of a movie with the same title, this Carlo Caparas novel is a complete opposite of the family-based drama of the other network.

“Sex, drama, mystery and suspense” are just some of the elements of said new teleserye and its production people are expecting nothing but greatness from it.

GMA 7 also talked about their other ventures in Zorro, which will be top-billed by primetime king Richard Gutierrez; All About Eve, to be led by Richard Gomez, Eula Valdez, Jean Garcia and Iza Calzado, Sunshine Dizon, among others, and several other shows like their regular Dramarama sa Hapon and Sunday shows.

The competition seems endless and the shows keep on coming. In spite of all the many mind-boggling items in politics such as the hearings on the fertilizer scam, the Alabang Boys and the furor over the educational and pension plans, we continue to find entertainment on TV.
