Cristine oozing with confidence

NEW TV star Cristine Reyes said she may sound a braggart, but truth to tell, she confessed that she didn’t a bit feel inadequate playing the role of Eva Fonda. No matter if she knew that its film version had former popular bold star and now Parañaque City Councilor Alma Moreno playing the title role.

"I was properly informed, too, that the film was a monster hit," Cristine stated.

Alma, she also was told, was 16 when she did Eva Fonda. Cristine was 18 when she started taping for it. She’s now 19.

Has she seen Eva Fonda, the movie?

"Hindi," she answered. "But had I been asked to view it, I would have refused. I had wanted to interpret the role of Eva Fonda the way I envisioned it. Ayokong mangopya ng trabaho ng iba.

"Besides," she continued, "I was told from the beginning that we will not do a version of the movie. Magiging iba totally daw ang istorya ng series.

"Halimbawa, sa movie, isang dancer siEva. Dito sa teleserye, I’m a sexy model."

Nowhere, too, will one find in the movie the characters portrayed by both Jason Abalos and Baron Geisler, who are Cristine’s leading men. The roles of Joross Gamboa, Hazel Ann Mendoza, Princess Ryan and senior stars Sylvia Sanchez, Al Tantay, Jean Saburit and Mark Gil are also absent in the movie. Especially, that of Rustom Padilla, who plays himself, herself.

Alma, by the way, has a social participation in the teleserye.

The story of Eva Fonda revolves around a barrio lass whose beauty, instead of proving an asset, becomes a curse.

She has simple but definite dreams. She wants to be able to finish her studies so she could free herself and her loved ones from poverty.

Her dreams include marrying her childhood sweetheart played by Jason Abalos.

But a man obsessed with her comes into the picture. He is dead-set on winning her using whatever means necessary.

When this happens, it is not only Eva’s dreams that are shattered but her relationship with her family is also destroyed.

Two young directors are at the helm of "Eva Fonda": Jon Red and Frasco Martis.

"Excuse me, I’m not an abuser," Baron Geisler muttered, when asked if, like Rustom, he is playing a character close to his true self in the movie. "That’s a misconception I’d like to correct about myself.

"Kahit ako lasing, I know how to respect people. Especially women."

Baron admits, though, that he really was an alcoholic. But this was before. While he still drinks wine now, he makes sure he doesn’t overdo it.

In time, he promises to totally get rid of the habit.

"I promised my mom that. And I’m going to fulfill it," he said.

He recently learned that his mom is sick.

"Malubha raw ang sakit niya. Ganunpaman, she promised she will not leave me, until bumait na uli ako.

"In turn, I told my mom na ‘di lang ako magbabago, kung hindi ipapatayo ko pa sya ng bahay. And I mean to fulfill my promises to her."

Baron is the youngest and the only one living with his mom in a rented house. All his siblings are now married and have families of their own.

"I’ve never felt so much loved by my mom. And I love her even more now," said Baron.

"Because of her, talagang magbabago na ako."
