| 'Dayo': Country' firstAuthor: People's Journal THIS will be the first all digital, full length animated film entry to the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival(MMFF) for this year directed by Robert Quilao. "Dayo" is a heart warming animation story of Bubuy, voiced by Nash Aguas who takes on a journey in search of his grandparents. During his search, he meets Anna, a young and very energetic "manananggal" which is also voiced by Katrina Legaspi. Together, they try to search for Bubuy's missing grandparents. In their journey, they meet up with several characters that explain the meaning of togetherness. Some of these characters are Narsi which is voiced by Michael V, Vicky voiced by Pokwang, Carpio which is voiced by Johnny Delgado, and of course Nano which is voiced by Mr. Peque Gallaga. With Bubuy's experience, he will now be transformed to being a confident young boy able to stand up for himself. Being able to fight what he values the most and that is his grandparents. What struck me here the most is the arrangement of soundtrack in coordination with the movie. Ms. Lea Salonga was the highlight, singing her rendition of the theme song "Lipad" To back her up, it was played together with the FILharmoniKA orchestra under her brother Gerard Salonga. Truly this movie is a blast; not only it being the first of its kind in the Philippines but it will surely bring Filipino families a taste of upgraded animation in the local movie industry. For all its success, will Dayo be remembered from generations to generations? Just asking. .
Of course, we are referring to the main characters in the sitcom Iskul Bukol. First aired on IBC 13 in 1977, it made the comic trio of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon as icons of comedy on Philippine TV. In the series, Tito and Joey are the Escalera brothers who gave menace to the other characters in every episode; while Vic is the smart and good-looking Vittorio Ungasis. The show zoomed in on the life of Escaleras and Ungasis as students of the Wanbol University. These characters come to life anew as M-ZET Films brings back the TV series with its movie version, entitled Iskul Bukol 20 Years After: Ungasis and Escaleras Adventure. The movie, which serves as reunion of the original cast, is an official entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival. This early, it is being projected to top the box office. Accordingly, it was Vic Sotto who hatched the idea of doing a reunion movie with Tito and Joey. The original cast members agreed to reprise their role - except for Bing Angeles who passed away in 2001. "Hatak kasi ng movie ang mga magulang at mga bata," comments one showbiz reporter. "Nakalakihan kasi ng mga magulang ngayon ang nasabing show. Kaya nostalgic din para sa kanila. At siyempre, popular pa rin sa mga bata ang TVJ ngayon. So, sure na ito ang magiging number one sa takilya. Walang duda!" Will TVJ meet the expectations of the viewing public? Just asking. .. TALL ORDER FOR AI AI AND COMPANY Like Iskul Bukol, this movie reunites not only the original cast but also the director and scriptwriter. So, it is predicted that this sequel will bring the same magic and appeal to the moviegoers. In this sequel, Ai-ai becomes the president of the Philippines. Thus, aptly titled Ang Tanging Ina Nyong Lahat. Her being a president may be a bit corny. But surely it But accordingly, this would be the last sequel to the blockbuster "Ang Tanging Ina. " In fairness, the original movie claimed many awards in the MMFF five years ago including best actress for Ai Ai and shattered box-office records. So, it must be a tall order for the producer, director, writer and cast to retire this movie with a big bang. Is Ai Ai tired already as tanging ina? Just asking. .. .
