Diether Ocampo was rushed to a hospital in California. The handsome actor is part of the Star Magic tour in line with the talent management firm’s 17th anniversary celebration.

According to reports, Diet just fainted in the middle of the rehearsal of their production number for their show in Ontario, California. He allegedly hit his head on the stage when he fell which sent everyone alarmed. Immediately rushed at the San Antonio Community Hospital, the hunky star underwent CT scan and some medical procedure due to the abnormal rate of his heartbeat.

In a formal statement, Star Magic confirmed: “Diether suffered a seizure during morning rehearsals and was rushed by emergency services to a hospital where extensive tests were made to determine cause. Unconscious for a while but he is now conscious and in a stable condition. More tests are required and he is under observation.”

And before the public could jump into a conclusion with regard to Diet’s health condition, Star Magic’s current acting head Thess Gubi explains, “For the record, Diether has no congenital heart disease unlike some speculation. It can be traced to over-fatigue since for three weeks before flying to the US for their concert tour, he hardly slept because of his hectic work schedule. This weakened his resistance. But now, he’s doing better and in fact, is now ready to join the group when they perform in their next stop, the renowned Cow Palace in San Francisco.”

Comparisons are inevitable

Now that she’s the latest Darna, the beauteous Marian Rivera expects this early that she’ll be compared to Angel Locsin who starred in a similar series on GMA-7 a few years ago.

“It’s inevitable I suppose. Actually, it’s not just her but all the actresses who once became Darna on screen like Rosa del Rosario, Eva Montes, Gina Pareño, Rio Locsin, Lorna Tolentino and Vilma Santos. I can’t take it away from people. On my part, I just promise to do my best in order to please the viewing public,” she states.

Certainly she’ll be compared more to Angel since they are now considered rivals when it comes to popularity and star power. Isn’t she under pressure to surpass the very high ratings Angel’s Darna posted during its run?

“Honestly, I don’t want to think that I’m scared to be compared to her. I don’t want to think of the rivalry because for me, it’s work. I just want to feel the excitement of playing Darna. It’s every actress’ dream to portray the part. I’m thankful that GMA selected me to headline its new installment. With regards to Angel, I don’t see anything wrong if we are compared, as long as it’s healthy and not below-the-belt. And the most important thing is that we’re not enemies and don’t have an axe to grind with each other.”

Because of her rigid training for the said telefantasya, she obtained blacks and bruises.

“It’s okay. It’s part of the job. While waiting for the official taping, my wushu lessons continue. Dingdong [Dantes] told me that it’s not easy to do a telefantasya much more that it’s as huge as Darna but the more I’m challenged to do good in the role!”

Doing good for fellow Pinoys

Toni Gonzaga is proud that she’s part of an album for a cause titled I Move. I Give. I Love. This is a joint project of Star Records and the Philippine National Red Cross. Proceeds of the album will go directly to the PNRC.

“A project like this one is close to my heart. I’ve been a member of the local government for five years, remember? It’s not the first time that I’ve worked with Red Cross. During my term which just ended last year, they helped me with my health-and- sanitation-related projects, so I’m grateful to them. So when I was offered to be part of the trio who will perform the theme song of Red Cross’ 150th anniversary called “Bagong Umaga,” I agreed without hesitation,” she reveals.
