SENATOR Edgardo Angara was beaming with pride when his equally "VIG (for very important guests)" gathered around him immediately after the premiere screening of Baler at the Cinema 3, Glorietta 4, Makati City.

Tulad ni Sen. Angara, the guests were obviously impressed sa pelikula.

As publicized, Baler is a brainchild ni Senator Angara, touted as the favorite son of Baler.

Agree siya that the film was excellently produced. Thanks to Viva Films and Bida Foundation, which co-produced the MMFF entry.

Genuine na VIPs, Ian F. , ang dumating. Sen. Angara took care of inviting them himself as he was the one who sponsored the premiere screening.

Some of those who were spotted sa premiere included the ambassador from Spain (who came with his wife) and the ambassador from Argentina.

Dumating din sina former Senate President Franklin Drilon and wife Mila, NCAA head Cecile Guidote and Conchitina Bernardo, who was escorted by her husband.

Namataan din namin si Nini Quezon-Avancena, the only surviving anak ni President Manuel Quezon, na tubong Baler.

In a short program emceed by Hazel Bernardo of Viva Films, Sen. Angara acknowledged the presence of MMDA chief Bayani Fernando, also chairman of the Metro Manila filmfest executive committee.

Also in the audience were PAGCOR head Ephraim Genuino whose son, Erwin, is the executive producer ng Bida Foundation.

We also caught sight of Christine Dayrit, isa sa executives ng Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).

Christine, Ian F. , looks like our version ng Hollywood actress na si Jennifer Aniston, yes, dating misis ni Brad Pitt.

The cast of Baler didn't only come in full force but in full regalia as well. They all wore their costumes in the movie.

The cast includes Phillip Salvador, Jericho Rosales, Anne Curtis, Joel Torre, Rio Locsin, Ryan Eigenmann, Carlo Aquino, Leo Martinez, Baron Geisler, Michael de Mesa, Bernard Palanca, Aileen Dizon and Mark Bautista.

Baler was directed by Mark Meily, script by Roy Iglesias, who based his story from what really happened in Baler in 1898.

The film is being endorsed by the Department of Education and the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Mother Lily Monteverde and daughter Roselle Teo started the year with a bang for Regal Entertainment. So, they are ending it with a louder bang via their two entries, Desperadas 2 at Shake, Rattle & Roll X sa upcoming Metro Manila filmfest.

Desperadas 2 stars Ruffa Gutierrez, Rufa Mae Quinto, Iza Calzado, Marian Rivera and Ogie Alcasid. SR&RX, meanwhile, boasts of a powerhouse cast, composed of Kapuso and Kapamilya artists like Marian, Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, JC de Vera, Roxanne Guinoo, Mylene Dizon, Wendell Ramos, Jean Garcia, Iwa Moto, Jennica Garcia, John Lapus, Erich Gonzales, BJ Forbes, IC Mendoza and Janus del Prado.

"Next year," ani Roselle, who now heads Regal Entertainment (Mother Lily remains a consultant), "we look forward to producing more films. We also hope to discover and develop new talents. Sisimulan din namin ang aming project na Regal digital film series. "

Guess what Desperadas 2 stars Ruffa, Rufa Mae and Iza Calzado have in common?

Well, pare-parehong 'malamig' ang darating na Pasko para sa kanila.

Ruffa claims na hanggang ngayon, wala pang kapalit sa puso niya ang dating asawang si Yilmaz Bektas.

Si Rufa Mae naman, ayaw nang makipagbalikan sa Hong Kong-based ex-boyfriend na si Bobby Lopez.

In Iza's case, officially kaput na rin sila ng boyfriend of a few years, si Gerry Garcia. Meaning, wala siyang loved one na dadalaw sa bago niyang tinitirahan ngayong Pasko.

As we all know, si Iza ang new owner ng bahay ni Rufa Mae sa Acropolis, Quezon City.

Desperadas 3?

Si Marian, though nakipag-break din sa cager- model-boyfriend na si Ervic Vijandre, is far from celebrating a lonely Christmas.

Lalo't kung totoong her heart and soul now belong to Dingdong Dantes.

Ditto with Ogie Alcasid, who is also in the cast of Desperadas 2, who'll surely have a happy and fulfilling Christmas with girlfriend Regine Velasquez.
